Today is the birthday of Ozma, Queen of Oz. It's also apparently that of some little girl who was in Wawa at the same time I was, if what she told one of the employees was true. And it was the release date for the new Rilo Kiley and New Pornographers albums, as well as the day of my podiatrist's appointment.

I did get a chance to listen to the Rilo Kiley album, Under the Blacklight, once all the way through, and part of a second time. It's better than I feared it would be. The first song that I heard from it was "The Moneymaker," which was...I don't want to say "bad" so much as "insubstantial." It strikes me as very much a throwaway song, which makes me wonder why they'd release it as a single. Most of the album is much better, though, even if it's a little light in the lyrical department. I'm not so keen on "Dejalo," and my feelings on "15" are still somewhat up in the air (I do like the simile "deep as a graveyard," but I don't think that was original with RK), but I like the other tracks pretty well. I've only listened to the first few tracks on the New Pornographers' Challengers, but so far it sounds much less bombastic than their first three records.

As for the podiatrist's appointment, they numbed my toe and cut out the infected part. They said there's a chance it could get infected again, so I have to come back for a follow-up appointment in two weeks. Considering how everything else involving this toe problem has worked out, I have to say I'm fearing the worst. At least something has been done about the main issue, though.

Okay, I'd better get back to bed. My sleeping schedule has been pretty crazy recently.
