Having now heard all of Challengers, the new album by the New Pornographers, I can say that I think my initial impression of "less bombastic" holds true throughout the record. It's still just as busy and lyrically obtuse as you'd expect, but somewhat more subdued. There are also more vocals by Kathryn Calder, whom I'm suspecting of planning to devour Neko Case whole, and emerge as the dominant female in the group. I think my favorite song on the album is "Mutiny, I Promise You," but other standouts are "All The Old Showstoppers," "Go Places," and Dan Bejar's "Entering White Cecilia." Overall, the album doesn't thrill me as much as their last one did, but it's still fun, and it's nice to see the band going in some different directions.

Yesterday, I got Season 10 of The Simpsons in the mail, as well as Sims 2 University (the latter of which I'm sure I'm going to be staying up way too late playing, but since I have to get up in the morning tomorrow, that might not be as bad for my schedule as it would be otherwise). And on the bad side, I also got a traffic ticket, because I passed a row of cars waiting at a green light on the shoulder. I saw someone else do the exact same thing in front of me, though, and I have no indication that he was pulled over for it. Of course, a lot of problems like that would never arise if they'd stop putting in so many traffic lights without left turn signals. If I weren't so lazy and sure it wouldn't affect anything anyway, I'd make that my crusade or something.

The other bad news is that my toe still hurts somewhat. I really hope it isn't getting infected again. I'm sure it wouldn't be as bad if I didn't have to wear shoes so much. Actually, I wore sneakers today, and it didn't hurt as much. I think stiff shoes irritate it, and might even have been how the infection developed in the first place, for all I know.

I really should go to the grocery store sometime soon. When I run low on groceries, I start buying more stuff at convenience stores and drive-thrus, and I'm sure that adds up in the long run. I'm not really sure when I'll go, though. I don't think I'll feel like it today, and I probably won't have time tomorrow. Maybe Sunday?
