In Virginia, they've proposed a bill intended to stop unmarried women from having children. Are our elected officials REALLY that stupid, or are they just trying to appeal to idiotic constituents? I mean, talk about ignorant AND unconstitutional.
And in other crazy political news, a self-proclaimed vampire and Satanist is running for Governor of Minnesota.
I've finished with my re-read of The Silver Chair. I don't know whether anyone is actually interested in my semi-reviews of the Chronicles of Narnia, but I might as well go ahead with them. This is probably the most straight-ahead adventure/quest story in the series, and it's a very good one. I like Puddleglum, who reminds me of a friendlier version of Pessim from The Scarecrow of Oz. He's very serious and pessimistic, but also the best at sticking to the quest. I like how he says the other Marsh-wiggles think he's too light-hearted and not serious enough. Some things really are quite relative, aren't they? {g} The idea of underground worlds is a popular one in fantasy stories, and there's a lot of interesting stuff in Underland. We also get to see the area north of Narnia for the first time. And while it's an old sort of joke, I find Glimfeather's conversation with the deaf Trumpkin to be pretty funny. It was one of the parts of the book I remembered best from when I read it as a kid.

obsessical sent me. I'd actually heard Rilo Kiley's "The Execution Of All Things" before, but I think it's a cool song. I wonder if I'd like anything else by that band. And isn't Stan Bush's "Dare" from the Transformers movie? That takes me back, albeit not as far back as it would likely take someone who was into the Transformers when they were actually popular. Anyway, thanks to Ren for the mix!

Date: 2006-01-15 07:09 am (UTC)Also, The Execution of All Things is the reason I bought an electric guitar. I have to play that solo. (I bought a guitar and amp off of my friend for 50 bucks...i'm just waiting for her friend to restring it.) If you want, I send you some other Rilo songs on IM. They're a really, really great and interesting band.
and you're welcome :)

Date: 2006-01-15 08:25 pm (UTC)I actually have one other Rilo song, "A Better Son/Daughter," which I also like. I'd be glad to get some others. Maybe next weekend, when I'll be back at my own computer.
