In Virginia, they've proposed a bill intended to stop unmarried women from having children. Are our elected officials REALLY that stupid, or are they just trying to appeal to idiotic constituents? I mean, talk about ignorant AND unconstitutional.

And in other crazy political news, a self-proclaimed vampire and Satanist is running for Governor of Minnesota.

I've finished with my re-read of The Silver Chair. I don't know whether anyone is actually interested in my semi-reviews of the Chronicles of Narnia, but I might as well go ahead with them. This is probably the most straight-ahead adventure/quest story in the series, and it's a very good one. I like Puddleglum, who reminds me of a friendlier version of Pessim from The Scarecrow of Oz. He's very serious and pessimistic, but also the best at sticking to the quest. I like how he says the other Marsh-wiggles think he's too light-hearted and not serious enough. Some things really are quite relative, aren't they? {g} The idea of underground worlds is a popular one in fantasy stories, and there's a lot of interesting stuff in Underland. We also get to see the area north of Narnia for the first time. And while it's an old sort of joke, I find Glimfeather's conversation with the deaf Trumpkin to be pretty funny. It was one of the parts of the book I remembered best from when I read it as a kid.

Normal enough to know that you're weird...
But too damn weird to do anything about it!

You scored as Cowardly Lion. All you need is a little courage, and you can be king of the forest. But seriously, you can purr with the best of them, King of the Forest.

I'm currently listening to the mix CD that [livejournal.com profile] obsessical sent me. I'd actually heard Rilo Kiley's "The Execution Of All Things" before, but I think it's a cool song. I wonder if I'd like anything else by that band. And isn't Stan Bush's "Dare" from the Transformers movie? That takes me back, albeit not as far back as it would likely take someone who was into the Transformers when they were actually popular. Anyway, thanks to Ren for the mix!

Bills like that one piss me off. Realistically, the only single women who can afford reproductive assistive technologies are those with good paying jobs and medical benefits. These are not women who are likely to end up on welfare.

YES, DARE IS FROM THE TRANSFORMERS MOVIE!! I am so pumped that you picked up on that, I really hoped you would. It's such a fabulous, fabulous song. I grew up watcing that movie because my brother has been obsessed with Transformers his entire life.

Also, The Execution of All Things is the reason I bought an electric guitar. I have to play that solo. (I bought a guitar and amp off of my friend for 50 bucks...i'm just waiting for her friend to restring it.) If you want, I send you some other Rilo songs on IM. They're a really, really great and interesting band.

and you're welcome :)

Wasn't it also the flip to the transformers-tie-in "Dare To Be Stupid" single?

The main intent is probably to stop homosexuals from raising kids, because it's been scientifically proven that the kids will all end up gay, and straight people will die out. :P It's also based on the idea that Marriage Is Magic. And maybe it is from a personal or religious standpoint, but politically, it's basically just a way to get a tax break. It certainly has no bearing on a person's ability to raise children.

My brother also watched the Transformers movie a lot after buying it for $1 at a yard sale. Transformers were really popular when I was in first and second grade, but I never had any.

I actually have one other Rilo song, "A Better Son/Daughter," which I also like. I'd be glad to get some others. Maybe next weekend, when I'll be back at my own computer.

Actually, I think that was "The Touch," another song by the same artist and from the same movie.

Ah, you're right! I remembered his name, and forgot the song title!

"A Better Son/Daughter" was my, sort of...personal anthem for awhile. I swear Jenny Lewis is talking about me in that song.

Whenever you're at your own computer, IM me at (ihearttmbg) and I'll send you some good stuff. I think you'd like "The Frug".

"YOU'VE GOT THE TOUCH! DUN DUN, DUN, DUN! YOU'VE GOT THE POW-ERRRRRR!!!!"

Oh man. Good times. I also like how the voice of Blur was the guy who talked fast in the commercials in the 80s.

Was he the Micro Machine Man? I saw him recently on I Love the 80's 3-D, or one of those similar VH1 specials.
