Troy McClure sleeps with the fishes
Jan. 12th, 2005 05:17 pmSo,
bethje and I got around to watching The Godfather last night. Like Citizen Kane, it's one of those movies I wanted to watch to increase my cultural literacy, by which I mean "understand the innumerable parodies." {g} For what it's worth, I don't think there were as many direct Simpsons references to Godfather as to Kane, but there were several, including the spoof of the James Caan tollbooth scene earlier this season. And yes, I also liked the movie on its own merits, but I'm a horrible reviewer, so I usually just go off on tangents when talking about films I've seen. {g} I do have to wonder why there were sometimes subtitles when characters spoke Italian, but other times there weren't.
I heard something on the radio about Verizon DSL being down in the Philadelphia area. That's what I use at home, but I haven't BEEN home recently, so I'm not sure whether it's down there or not. I hope it isn't, or that they get it fixed before then, since I have a bit of catching up to do as far as the Internet goes.
Finally, on my way to work today, I stopped by the $5 CD store, and bought copies of the Beatles' Let It Be (the original version, not the "Naked" one; maybe it should be called the "Clothed" version {g}) and a Robyn Hitchcock album.
