Offensive to Christians and Prunes

vovatI can't say I'm really feeling in the Christmas spirit right now, but I still thought it might be time for another holiday mix. Here's the tracklist for my last one, which I no longer have on my computer, but might possibly have on CD somewhere. This one is all different, although some artists reappear. While I don't know if I'll burn this one to CD, I still like to keep my mixes to CD length.

2. (Everybody's Waiting for) The Man with the Bag - Kay Starr (This one gets stuck in my head pretty often.)
3. Santa's on His Way - Pipettes
4. Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me - Belle and Sebastian (B&S covering Elvis. I used to think my dad was Elvis, but I haven't told him that yet. I haven't told my dad either. This is from a Christmas session with John Peel, which includes a lot of cool holiday covers and some B&S originals.)
5. Little Saint Nick - She and Him (I'm pretty tired of the Beach Boys original, but I like this ukelele-driven cover.)
6. Jingle Jingle Jingle - Burl Ives (From the Rankin-Bass "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." Another one that frequently gets stuck in my head, even when it's nowhere near Christmas.)
7. I Am Santa Claus - Bob Rivers (Christmas-themed parody of Black Sabbath's "Iron Man," by the guy whose songs are often misattributed to Weird Al.)
8. Christmas at Ground Zero - "Weird Al" Yankovic (Now THIS is Weird Al. See, they don't sound at all similar. This song is doubly appropriate this holiday season, what with all the end of the world rumors going around. And just so you know, the song was recorded fifteen years before "Ground Zero" came to be used to refer to the ruins of the World Trade Center.)
9. Here Comes Fatty Claus - Rudolph and Gang (Anti-Christmas song that I became aware of through John Waters' Christmas collection. The language is pretty strong, but, come on, you've heard worse.)
10. Careless Santa - Mono Puff (I don't know what Santa has to do with bank robbery, but this song is allegedly based on a true story.)
11. I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas - Gayla Peevey (The holiday classic about wanting the animal that causes the most deaths in Africa for a pet.)
12. Green Chri$tma$ - Stan Freberg (An amusing indictment of Christmas commercialism. An oldie, but still as relevant as ever.)
13. Down by the Pharmacy - Young Fresh Fellows (A song from the Fellows' first album, rewritten with Christmas-related lyrics. I guess you have to be familiar with the original to get the joke, but I'm including it anyway.)
14. Go Tell It on the Mountain - Simon and Garfunkel (Two Jews singing about the birth of Jesus, from their first album.)
15. What Child, Nowell - Tori Amos (Tori's "Midwinter Graces" album is basically a collection of new songs made out of fragments from old ones. I guess a lot of rap is also like that, but this is about as far from rap as it gets.)

goldenmoonbear, this is a good song that doesn't get played quite as much as some of these others.
17. Everything Is One Big Christmas Tree - Magnetic Fields (Not really a Christmas song, but it mentions Christmas, and sometimes you have to round up.)
18. O Tannenbaum - They Might Be Giants (Sung by John Linnell in the original German. Well, just the first verse, but still.)

20. The Man in the Santa Suit - Fountains of Wayne
21. Santa Claus - Throwing Muses (Another rounding-up sort of song. I'm not that familiar with Throwing Muses, but I like what I've heard, and I came across this one when searching for Santa-related music.)
22. I Yust Go Nuts at Christmas - Yogi Yorgesson (The faux-Swedish Christmas classic.)
23. Pruny Night - The Simpsons (A California Raisins parody from the episode "'Tis the Fifteenth Season.")
24. The Craig Torso Christmas Show - Bonzo Dog Band (A follow-up to the original Craig Torso bit, including commercials for porridge as hair gel and breath-freshening for Santa.)
Another song I'd wanted to include but didn't have was the wooden cat with yellow-green eyes one from the Rankin-Bass The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, so here it is in video form:
And here's "Monsters' Holiday," Bobby "Boris" Pickett's Christmas follow-up to his famous "Monster Mash."
