It Sure Ain't Butter!
Jul. 8th, 2011 10:21 pmI finally got around to watching both last night's and last week's Futurama episodes, so here are my reviews:

Ghost in the Machines - This episode carries over the concept of robot ghosts from "The Honking," when Bender dies and makes a deal with the Robot Devil that involves trying to scare Fry to death. It raises questions about Bender's mortality, since we know from "Lethal Inspection" that he doesn't have a backup system, but he apparently CAN exist purely in software form. Also, his personality can be stored on a floppy disk, according to "How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back." Perhaps it's better not to think too much about it. Also, is there any relation between Robot God and the God-Entity? I demand answers! Okay, I guess I don't really need them, because I enjoyed the episode anyway. It was probably my favorite of the four that have aired so far this season. The Robot Devil was in excellent form, and I liked the Amish Homeworld. I guess my thoughts about the Amish dying out shortly won't be true at all, and in fact they'll colonize their own planet by the year 3011!
bethje mentioned that she particularly liked Bender's wispy ghost tail.

Law and Oracle - This one was pretty heavy on the movie parodies, including some I've seen and others I haven't. There were references to Police Academy, Minority Report, Tron, Avatar, and The Maltese Falcon (not that I've seen those last two). It was interesting seeing Fry take a new job, and the plot was amusingly convoluted. Incidentally, if Smitty retired, does that mean we're not going to see him in future episodes? I have to suspect they'll just ignore this plot element, but you never know.
I have work early both tomorrow and Sunday, so I guess I'd better get to bed now.
