I don't like this day; it makes me feel too small

So, I guess I'm 27 years old now, the age at which rock stars die. I'm getting old. I mean, I guess 27 isn't THAT old, but it's kind of old to not have a full-time job. It seems like I haven't really done much with my life. I have a master's degree, but so what? What good has it done me?

I'm always kind of depressed and frustrated around my birthday. It actually hasn't been so bad this year, and today has been pretty good so far (more details on that later). I guess it's partially that the fall is just a generally depressing time of year for me, and partially because I tend to feel unappreciated, like no one cares that it's my birthday. I mean, I don't think I would want to have a birthday party, but it's still kind of a sobering thought that no one would come if I did.

At least bethje cares about my birthday. She gave me a copy of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, which I can't actually play yet. She says she'll loan me her Game Boy Advance after she gets a DS. I guess I could just go ahead and buy a GBA, also. Beth also gave me some Wal-Mart Ali Baba videotape as a joke gift, and she says there's something else that's coming in the mail. Before I took her to school today, she bought me dinner at Illiano's, an Italian restaurant. I had the lasagna, and it was very good. Her mom made me a cake and bought me a shirt, and MY mom has also made me a cake, so I guess I'm going to be eating a lot of cake in the days to come.

It also hasn't been very cold today, which is good. I think it snowed on the actual day I was born, back in 1977.

Wow, birthdays all around lately. I know they are kind of strange and depressing usually, but at least they are full of presents. Hope you have a good(enough) one!

Thanks! It's been a pretty good day so far, actually, but I can recall so many times when I was just really upset on my birthday. I'm sure some of those times were just coincidence, but still.

If you're worried about trying to eat all the cake before it goes bad, you can always freeze it; most cakes freeze really well. (I suppose I'm a bit odd, but I like eating partially-frozen cake.)
