First of all, happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] daveychu, who has the privilege of having been born five days before I was.

Anyway, I read in the Metro the other day that Blockbuster had put in a bid to buy Hollywood Video. This is pretty annoying, since I prefer Hollywood to Blockbuster. They seem to have a better selection and better prices. Oh, well. The article said it wasn't definite that Blockbuster would buy Hollywood, but it's a distinct possibility.

I also tried to do the crossword puzzle in the Metro with a pen. Like Confucius, only he's probably better at it than I am. I didn't have a pencil, though, so I ended up having to write over some letters with other ones. Overall, I'm just not that good at crossword puzzles. You might think I would be, since I'm generall fairly good with words, but I guess I'm not that skilled at thinking like the crossword makers do.

jesus. buyimng out the competition. blockbuster is the most evil. when i worked at the local video store, i heard talk of blockbuster buying us, but i never heard whether it really happened or not. (they could have bought it, without changing it? i don't know)

The article I read said something about Blockbuster having tried to buy Blockbuster at some other time, and not being allowed to because of anti-monopoly legislation, or something like that. Why that wouldn't still apply, I don't know, but I'm too lazy to look up anything about it.

I guess it's possible that Blockbuster could buy other chains or independent stores without changing anything, but they're still overly greedy. Why do they need to bother buying other stores? They're doing fine as it is! I guess I just don't have the mentality to be part of the corporate world.

I actually heard about that too (I actually wrote an article on it for Plastic! Whoo!), so, yeah. And, I too, am hoping that it doesn't go through, just because, um, yeah. Hollywood is _way_ superior. They'll actually stock "objectionable" films! And as far as I know, they've never edited their tapes. So... yeah.

Also, I've found with crosswords, it's just mainly practice, just because, well, they start using the same words a lot, and so, you can pretty much always know when to put in "eke" or whatnot. I used to do crosswords all the time. I never got good enough to do them in pen (at least, intentionally so), but yeah.

That line was going through my head the other day, after I saw that someone had started a crossword in the student newspaper in pencil. I always do mine in pen. Pencil just isn't dark enough on newsprint.
