Why are there so many open library director positions, and so few library worker jobs

Dude, we're hiring... and we got 120 applications, some of whom are from out of state. Our director called them and said "You do realize we pay only above minimum and don't have benefits?" and they all answered "I don't care, I want the job!" I suspect the many director positions available are all from small libraries that can only afford to hire one person with a degree (or one person AT ALL), and so they want to put that person in charge. Kind of like the time I applied for a children's services position and didn't get it because they decided I should also be the director.

That might well be the case. The thing is, I get the impression that the director is more a manager than a librarian, and I have no interest in going into management, even if I COULD get hired for it.

That's exactly the impression I have, too. My director actually WAS in management/sales/finance/all that sort of stuff before. Of course, half (or more) of the time the BOARD doesn't care about the distinction-- oh, you have an advanced degree? Let's put you in charge then! Yep, because education=leadership skills.

Because one is about a guy who does it as art, and one is a bout a whiny, stereotypical, Italian New Yorker? Seriously, though, you could make the same argument for the oversized family, little people, and logging shows.

It does seem that, pretty much anytime someone comes up with an idea for a TV show (especially a really bad one), an imitator comes along soon after that. I'm particularly sick of the shows about crappy parents. Come on, there's nationally televised video footage of how badly you raise your kids, and Child Protective Services isn't doing anything?

Well, some of the stuff parents do to kids/with kids is immoral but not illegal. I just had a similar discussion with another LJ friend. Sure, spanking is immoral, but as long as you're not mutilating the child or beating them to near death, you're allowed to spank as much as you want. There's a fine line between bad parenting and parental abuse, but it's there. "Super Nanny" seems to pick parents that are bad parents but otherwise fairly normal and sane, but it's the parents on "Wife Swap" that seem to be more abusive and neurotic. I mean, shit like raising your kids as unemployed pirates (the sea kind, not the illegally-downloading kind)? No way is that healthy or legal.

Probably not. And I have to question how the stuff people make their kids do on Toddlers & Tiaras is legal, although it apparently is.

Oh, Toddlers & Tiaras... Some of the kids are just as bitter and jaded as their parents. And at the age of five!

I'd probably be bitter and jaded as well if my parents forced me into beauty pageants.
