It was back to Manhattan again for [livejournal.com profile] bethje and me yesterday, what with the Conan O'Brien show at Radio City Music Hall that evening. We didn't have anything to do when we first got into the city, so I decided to stop by Books of Wonder, only to find out it was closed. This was the second time this year that this happened to me. I think Peter Glassman knows when I'm coming into the city. After wasting some time at a music store and a Starbucks, we journeyed uptown to Rockefeller Center and the World of Nintendo. There was no guy in a Mario suit there this time, but otherwise it was pretty much the same. We met [livejournal.com profile] 3x1minus1 there, along with her sister Amy and Amy's boyfriend. Beth had already met two out of three of them, but I hadn't, even though I've known sarah online for years. So that was cool, although I still have some difficulty with social interaction. I don't want to be seen as boring, so I usually end up talking way too much. I need to find a balance somehow. Anyway, we had some pizza and some Ben & Jerry's, and went into two different souvenir stores. I usually don't go into places like that, but I actually found a new Mario shirt at one of them. Interestingly, Nintendo World didn't have this one.

When we arrived for the show, there was some guy giving out merchandise and free tickets for the movie Splice. He was still there trying to give away tickets after the show. I'm sure it says something about the movie that he couldn't even get people to watch it for free. Maybe next time the creators should try an idea that HASN'T been done fifty billion times before. Anyway, I really liked the Conan show, and it went by much more quickly than it seemed, which is a good thing.

I don't know how much of the act changes from one night to another, but he does apparently try to get special guests at every city. This time, he did a bit with Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart involving a dance-off, and had Bill Hader, John Krasinski, and Paul Rudd come on stage to pull the Walker, Texas Ranger lever. (I didn't get pictures of any of the latter three, but sarah did, so you can check out her pictures to see these guys. I know the ladies all think Paul Rudd is hot.) I have to suspect that Philadelphia will be a bit of let-down after that. What celebrities even live there? Will Smith isn't even there anymore, is he? Anyway, you can see the rest of my pictures of the show here.

Nice Mario shirt! The only ones I've seen are the "Free Ride" with Yoshi one (for nymphos) and the "1UP" Mushroom one (for stoners).

The Conan show was here last week or two weeks ago, and it sounded like it was fun, but all we had was Andy Richter. I would have much preferred the actors you got.

And I think Paul Rudd is kinda hot, too...

I've gotten Mario shirts at Hot Topic and Target in the past. The selection really varies from one visit and store to another.
