My cousin just posted on Facebook complaining about "give someone a car for Christmas" commercials, so maybe you're just not watching the right shows this year.

But as someone who's been just barely making ends meet for 5 years now, let them still advertise their overpriced gizmos and such-- it offends me less than commercials that are like "Money is tight, so instead of buying this really overpriced item you don't need, buy stuff you don't need for 30% off!"

Because, those of us trying to put food on the table know, IF YOU DON'T NEED SOMETHING, DON'T BUY IT.

I think a lot of it depends on how far you're willing to stretch the definition of "need."

Yeah, I talk like that, but I also have cable Internet. Seems like a necessity to us. But on the other hand I see people come into the library all the time who don't even have a computer, and then you see these commercials for the latest uptodate iPods or whatever, and all I can think of is the huge tech gap between the, not even rich and poor, but the well-off-who-don't-even-know-it and the working poor.
