Seeing as how I've never had my own place, I haven't really done much decorating of my own. I generally don't believe in putting up decorations for the December holidays until December, though. I remember my mom telling me that it was appropriate to take them down on New Year's Day, but that doesn't mean we always DID that. I used to change my blog colors for the Christmas season, but I'm not graphic-design-minded, so it was kind of a hassle for me. I wonder if there are any pre-made Christmas templates for LiveJournal.

Honestly, I can't say I'm looking forward to Christmas this year. Can't we postpone it until I've gotten my shit together? Granted, that might mean postponing it indefinitely, but hopefully it wouldn't be that long. I generally like holidays, but I don't feel at all festive nowadays.

In the UK we tend to take them down on Twelfth Night, January 5th. No specific rules on when we put them up though. In my family it tends to be sometime during the second week of December.

That makes sense, as I suppose that's the official end of Christmas.

Do people tend to properly celebrate the whole twelve days of Christmas in the UK then? I wish people would here, but the idiots in charge of the media (and especially stores and such) seem to think the twelve days come BEFORE the 25th, and Christmas is totally over by the 26th please don't mention it again because people aren't SHOPPING for it anymore or some junk. Anyway, I tend to celebrate Christmas from the first day of Advent (or the first day of December, whichever comes first-- this year it's Advent) until probably sometime after Russian Christmas on Jan 7. I'm a bit of a Christmas junkie.

No, I'm afraid not. It's only really the taking down of the decorations on Twelfth night and the occassion rendition of the song. Other than that, the stores and so on all move on to the January sales...

There are totally Xmas themes for LJ--I just changed mine to one. Also, it really startles me to hear you swear, just cos I don't think I ever have, haha. (Also hearing anyone say "get your shit together" always gets "Disappointing Show" in my head...)

It's weird, because there are situations in which I curse out loud quite a lot, but it still feels kind of odd to do it in type. Well, except when quoting, because I think the "f**k" stuff is just absurd.

Ah, ok. I always just chalked it up to you being all geeky and uptight. ;)

Hey, I may be geeky and uptight, but...what's the third thing you said?

This made me giggle, as I've felt this way for so long it's ridiculous. I think I've just let a few holiday seasons zoom past without feeling too bad. Just let 'em zoom on by. Just let 'em <<swoosh>> past the old conscious mind as best I could. Wake up and it's January 2, and I have 360 days not to have to deal with it again.

"but we need a little Christmas....."

NO. WE DON'T.

I've always kind of liked Christmas, but I've never really put a lot of thought into the preparations. It always feels like I'm not really getting into the spirit of the season.
