Last night, I had a dream that involved some kind of magical frog. I think it could grant wishes or something. I just remember carrying it from one place to another. The thing is, I imagined it being kind of lizard-like, and having either gold or silver skin. Once I reached the place where I was taking it, I decided it would have been even better if it had a turtle shell. I don't think any of these changes in appearance actually took place, though, despite the fact that I thought they should. I kind of wish they had, since I like dreams where you have some degree of creative control.

Today, I went down to the Borders near Wilmington to take advantage of their CD sale. On the way, I found out that not only does my car tape player still sometimes have trouble rewinding and fast-forwarding, but it's also started turning tapes over for no apparent reason. Anyway, at Borders, I ended up buying the Magnetic Fields' Holiday, the CD of Leftover Salmon remixes of Cracker songs, and two CDs for [livejournal.com profile] bethje. I had wanted to get the Move On Future Soundtrack for America compilation, but they didn't have it in stock, despite it saying in their computer that they did. After leaving Borders, I bought some blank CDs from Best Buy, so I should be able to start making those mix CDs sometime soon.

I said "CD" quite a bit in that last paragraph, didn't I?

What's your subject line from? I dig it.

Also, I've got the Leftover Salmon/Cracker CD -- they're not remixes, they're actually re-recordings with Johnny and David, and I actually dug that way more than I thought I would. (I mainly got it because, hey, Cracker.) I'm not that into bluegrass (though I love old country music), but I thought that a lot of the Cracker songs really worked in that style. I've been thinking about picking up a Magnetic Fields record (probably 69 Love Songs since that's the one everyone seems to be "DOOD THIS IS THE BEST RECORD EVER!!!" over), but I've never gotten around to it. I've also got the Future Soundtrack of America, but I haven't heard it yet. I got it in the Future Dictionary of America, which I also haven't read. It's got some cool contributors, though, like Sarah Vowell. (IIRC, though, it's also got Chris Bachelder, a writer so bad whenever he writes the beginning of a letter I want to shout "NO!" and bitchslap him. For some reason, he keeps popping up in McSwys/Believer lately. And I want him to stop.)

The subject line is actually sort of a parody of a line from the Camper Van Beethoven song "Borderline." The real line is "On the borderline, nothing is real except for you and I." I just modified it so it would be relevant to the events of today.

Now that I've listened to some of the songs on O' Cracker Where Art Thou?, I realize that they're not actually remixes. The concept is kind of similar, though. I really do like what I've heard of the CD so far, but I tend to have a pretty positive view of bluegrass-type stuff in general. I think "Get Off This" and "Teen Angst" might be my current favorites, but that's based on only one listen.

I'd definitely recommend 69 Love Songs, although I guess the fact that it's three CDs might make it a bit of a daunting purchase. Maybe sample a few of the songs first. The three discs are sold individually, but getting the whole package means spending less money in the long run, and I think that's the only way you can get the booklet with notes on every song.

I seem to recall seeing the Future Dictionary for America somewhere. It might have been at a bookstore, but it could have also been a library. If the latter, then maybe I should go ahead and read it, since, y'know, it wouldn't cost me anything.

I picked up Future Soundtrack For America when it came out, and it's a pretty good mix. I mean, I'd probably get it just for the TMBG track, which was really great - kinda creepy & haunting. It has a way of sticking with you. Several of the other tracks were really nice as well. I was surprised to enjoy the Flaming Lips contribution as much as I did. I think my only complaint overall was that some of the artists seemed to want to be part of the project, but rather than contribute a new song, they took an old song, tweaked it slightly, and called it a remix.

I've heard the TMBG track, and I did like it. The CD seems to have a mix of artists I like, don't know, and don't care for, but enough of the first category to make it something I'll want to purchase.

I actually like what I've heard by the Flaming Lips, and might be inclined to buy one of their albums, if I can find one for cheap enough.
