Actually, I DO list the Pixies as an interest. I just didn't put "the" in front of the band name. I mean, they never put "the" in front on the album covers, so why should I?
I just noticed that I've got both "Pixies" and "The Pixies". I think my thought is to include the "the", just so people don't think I'm into General Pixies (which I'm not, really), and know that it's the Band (who are wicked awesome). But yeah, it probably pretty much should be "pixies" instead of "the pixies". I think it might be one of those Talking Heads type things, except I don't think they're as hung up on it, as it's "Death to the Pixies" instead of "Death to Pixies".
I would say either way is appropriate ("Pixies" or "The Pixies"), and I guess I could list it both ways, but I kind of don't want to list the exact same interest in two different ways (the same reason why I don't list "TMBG" separately from "They Might Be Giants"). As a general rule, I'll list the band name without "the" unless it would be confusing, or it's just a lot more common among livejournal users to include "the." I tend to doubt anyone is going to find my journal thinking that I'm into Tinkerbell or something, especially when I have Frank Black down as another interest.
That's true. I think for me, the Interests thing is more of a way for people to stumble across my journal, so, I don't mind having redundant interests. But yeah, I know what you mean about the "the" -- Typically I drop it also, but there's a few exceptions. (Like, just "Who" would be weird. If I had them listed as an interest, which I don't think I actually do, heh.)
