[livejournal.com profile] rockinlibrarian recently did this experiment, which she didn't intend as a meme. I'm also curious about who's reading my journal, though, so I'm going to duplicate it:

"Hi whoever is reading this! If you are reading this, even if you just so much as glimpse the entry, leave a comment... yes, no, seriously. This is not a meme, this is just an experiment. But since it is an experiment and not a meme, please don't warp the results by not commenting!"

Like Amy, I'm particularly interested in knowing about anyone who might be lurking here, or who found this journal through a community or something. Let me know how you got here.

If I recall correctly, it's because you started commenting in my journal. So I wonder how you found me.

Through [livejournal.com profile] thedisappointed, actually. I used to read the Members pages of communities a lot, but now just reading my regular friends page keeps me too occupied to do that very often anymore.

IIRC, bec_87rb knew us both, I commented on her lj, you came to mine.
To go back farther, bec_87rb and I met on the website of Peter Watts.
Peter Watts was discussing Francis Collins, and Francis Collins was in a movie with... Kevin Bacon.

Yeah, I think it might have been around the fall of 2004? I often forget how long I've had this journal, and I was someone who didn't even get one until they started giving them out for free.

I don't have an Angelfire site. I did have a Geocities one, though, so could that be what you're thinking of?

Present!

Heh, LJ just introduced a feature where you can see who is visiting your journal. Unless the person has that option blocked (like I have, because I find it creepy).

From: [identity profile] vovat.livejournal.com
How do I use that feature?

I'm not sure, but they explain it in the most recent News post.

Oh hello. I think I finally started reading your journal because of [livejournal.com profile] bec_87rb and [livejournal.com profile] suegypt and other TMBG people, but I think I first noticed you hanging around on [livejournal.com profile] trapezzoid's journal (or perhaps just people who I knew because of him) way back when I first got an LJ. Geez, was that really 5ish years ago?

From: [identity profile] vovat.livejournal.com
I don't remember reading [livejournal.com profile] trapezzoid's journal all that much, but that might have been another result of reading community pages.

Yes, we met through a community-- a Community of Scholars! ...though on here it was when you replied to a comment someone ELSE even left on the first post I ever made in the [livejournal.com profile] discworld community and I was like "Hey wait I KNOW that guy!"

So far my experiment has only turned up two lurkers (one of whom fount me through you) and one sort-of lurker who doesn't actually keep her lj account but whose blogger blog I stalk, so that probably doesn't count. There are ten more lj users listed as watching me who didn't respond though, so I don't know about them. I also am sad (but not surprised) to find that although Tamora Pierce did friend me back, she doesn't appear to actually be reading me. I'm sure she's busy, you know, WRITING something or something instead.

How much of my journal did you have to read before figuring out who I was? Or did you know just from the name?

I have a feeling that not everyone reading is going to respond to these posts, even though they ask nicely. {g} And some people probably read some but not all of my posts, which could mean missing this one.

I also am sad (but not surprised) to find that although Tamora Pierce did friend me back, she doesn't appear to actually be reading me. I'm sure she's busy, you know, WRITING something or something instead.

I think that's kind of the way with celebrity bloggers.

Just from the name-- I remembered it from the summer after freshman year when the fad was for everyone to have their own webpages and we all apparently spent all summer reading each others webpages and sending each other other people's webpages (although I did not have a webpage, I just stalked everyone else's), and I remembered "vovat" from yours, though the fact that the "name" that comes up beside it in email responses is "Nathan" just confirmed it further.

We Oz fans, no matter what our other differences, must stick together against the overwhelming mob of people who think it's "just" a movie.

From: [identity profile] vovat.livejournal.com
Yeah, it's at least TWO movies! How can people forget Return to Oz?

On the other hand, it's probably good if they forget the 1925 Larry Semon film.

I was referring to the books (and you knew that, you naughty boy!), but that's a really good point. Once I got over the way the plot had been changed from Land and Ozma, I fell hard for Return to Oz. But nobody understood the darkness or lack of music -- because they'd forgotten the books!

I haven't seen that 1925 movie, but maybe that's for the best.

I don't know, the Sawhorse's singing was a bit wooden.

What about the "Oompa" guy from Road, or the living record player? That's entertainment!
