I haven't written in some time, have I? There really isn't anything much I have to say. I've been spending most of the last few days on the Internet, looking up stuff that I'm sure is of no interest to anyone else. On Monday night, [livejournal.com profile] bethje and I went to eat at Denny's, which was good.

I wish I could find a full-time job. I like my part-time jobs, but I'm just not making enough money. Anybody know of a library job I could have? I didn't think so.

Nonestica has been officially shut down. No big deal, I guess, but I hardly think the problems there were all that severe.

On at least two different forums, I've seen people criticize the trend of Bush-bashing. Fortunately, Bush supporters seem to be in the minority on both of those forums. That's not my main problem with that, though. The bigger issue is that these people seem to present bashing the President as something new and undesirable, when it's been around for ages, and is actually a large part of the basis for the country. I mean, if the Founding Fathers had just decided to sit back and support King George III, the United States as we know it wouldn't exist, right? So why should Americans sit back and support our own King George? Never mind that a lot of the people who think we should stand behind the President criticized Clinton all the time, and often for dumber things. A healthy lack of trust for our leaders is part of what makes this country great.

Yesterday, I finished reading Exodus, and got through part of Leviticus. I really do plan to read the entire Bible eventually. I've read bits and pieces of it, and I read the entire books of Daniel and Revelation for my Apocalyptic Literature course in college, but never the whole thing.

I absolutely agree with you about President-bashing. Seriously, when hasn't an American president taken a lot of mocking for almost everything they do? I'm actually kind of frightened by people who believe that you should never question the motives of the president. I know several relatives that hated Clinton and always talked horribly about him, but since they concidere Bush to be one of them, they don't want to accept that he might ever say or do anything wrong. I think Winston Churchill once said that the greatest duty any citizen of a democracy can perform is to question the motives of its leaders.

Good luck on the reading. I've tried to read the entire Bible a couple of times and always get horribly bogged down around the time I get to the minor prophets.

If your relatives consider Bush to be "one of them," are they Texan oil tycoons, or what?

I read part of, um, I think it was Zechariah for that same class, and it was awfully boring. Just a lot of instructions and measurements for building the temple. One of the interesting things about the Bible, though, is that it's such a mish-mash of stuff. History, mythology, laws, census data, etc.

Wow, that would make life easier, wouldn't it? Unfortunately, no. Sadly enough, they feel a bond to him simply because they are conservative Christians. They've loved him since he said that Jesus is the man he most admired back in the 2000 primaries. Now, they see him as "The Christian President," so everything he does must be right.

I tend to see it the opposite way, in that Bush often seems to be trying to push his own religious beliefs on the country. I guess that's no problem to people who believe the same things he does, but it's annoying to those of us who don't, and it's out of line with the whole "separation of church and state" thing.

And, for all Bush says he admires Jesus, I don't see much effort on the President's part to emulate him.

I couldn't agree more. I'm more than a little nervous about anyone who seems to mistake their own thoughts & feelings for a mandate from God.
