Probably [livejournal.com profile] bethje, although I know I added every LJ person I remembered from the TMBG Off-Topic List pretty much immediately. And yes, they're all still there. I'll generally only remove someone if they either delete their journal or remove me first.

So, it's the fifteenth of May (in the Jungle of Nool?), which means it's the one hundred fifty-third birthday of the late Lyman Frank Baum, my favorite author and possessor of one of my favorite mustaches.

In honor of Baum's birthday, check out this post by Jared Davis. The podcast you can download from there includes me, reading a chapter from The Emerald City of Oz. I haven't listened to the whole podcast yet, but I'll admit that I probably read a little too fast. From what I can remember, that's been the case since kindergarten. I also can't do voices, but I at least tried to use appropriate tones. You can let me know whether you think I succeeded.

Your result for The Social Persona Test (What kind of man/woman are you?)...

The Manga Geek (QLBM)

Quirky Liberal Beta Male

First of all, we can't help but notice that you spend an awful lot of time reading Hentei. Other than that though, you have a gentleness around women they find attractive. Seek out ones as quirky as you and you're golden.

You are more QUIRKY than NORMAL.

You are more LIBERAL than TRADITIONAL.

You are more PASSIVE than DOMINANT.

When picking a date, consider: The Rarity (QTAF), The Renaissance Faire Wench (QLAF), The Librarian (QTBF), or The Emo Girl (QLBF).

Actually, I've never read any hentai, but I DO know how to spell it. {g} Otherwise, I'd say that's pretty accurate.

Since your accomplishments are seldom noticed,
and you are rarely thought of, you are expendable.
That doesn't mean your job isn't important but if you
were in Star Trek you would be killed off in the first

Man, I'm always getting results like that. Not ones that say I'll die quickly, necessarily, but ones where I don't match well to any of the main characters available as results.

Hey, when you're done listening to the podcast, mind telling me what you think? I've heard nothing from anyone, except Sam, who just said that Al Cook sounded the best. (Which is odd, because when we recorded him, we did not have this podcast in mind.)

I think the readings were good, but the sound quality generally not so hot, which is understandable. I assume Mike Conway must have recorded his part in a different way, since the sound is more clear. I also think a few of them (including mine) might have benefited from more than one take, but I realize that might not have been entirely practical.

The guy they picked to be the Manga Nerd isn't too nerdish looking (probably a model), until you look at his chicken arms.

Hey, chickens don't have arms!

I think the guy looks kind of like every other person you'd see at a They Might Be Giants concert. {g}

He actually looks an awful lot like the guy I liked in high school on a really bad day.

Also, that IS a very good mustache.

Also also, it's interesting to see that the label "librarian" on that one quiz is for the people scoring the opposite of liberal, when that's so not the case for most of the librarians I know. But then I guess the sorts who blog a lot are not the sort who do still exist at some of your small rural libraries throughout the world...

Apropos of nothing in your post, really, but I thought you'd like it.

I don't know if you're familiar with the group Da Vinci's Notebook (same style as the Bobs and Moxy Früvous) but they have a cover that's really frickin' funny which you might like.

Yeah, I think I have all of their recordings, although I haven't followed the work of Paul and Storm since the group broke up. That version of "Shoehorn" has members of Früvous singing along, doesn't it?

I think there are members of both the Bobs and Moxy Früvous kind of in rotation. I know Richard Bob (the baritone/bass) was one of the founding members.
