So, you know about those people who claim they can talk to ghosts, right? No, this isn't about the old-school carnival-style tricks they use, but about what the ghosts are supposed to be saying. A person will get a message from a deceased loved one that's something like, "I'm doing well. You need to move on with your life. And give my regards to your brother Jim. Or is it John?" (I guess spirits tend to mumble, which makes sense, as I know from Halloween costumes on TV that they're always covering themselves with sheets.) But think of it from the ghost's point of view. You've just recently died and discovered beyond a doubt that there IS an afterlife, and you have the chance to communicate with a still-living friend or relative. Are you really going to have nothing to say beyond some advice that sounds like it came out of a fortune cookie? Or is the spirit world like one of those dictatorships where they read and censor all the outgoing mail?

I would imagine when you're dead, your priorities change. Also, clear communication is not always possible; so maybe people tend to stick to simple things. I'm not sure that dead people necessarily know that much more than live people anyway, and what they do know may not be applicable here. What do people from completely different spheres talk about? The weather, people they both know...they make small talk. Maybe it's more like that.

I have a friend who's a medium, but she doesn't channel dead people very much. She mostly channels...I'm too tired to explain it right now, but she seems to have a clear connection to a Source or the Source. idk. But I know her well enough to be fairly certain that she's not nuts and not out to manipulate anybody; and I've heard enough from the channeling to believe what she says, as much as I can believe anything without concrete proof.

Then I guess it probably doesn't matter too much which dead person you talk to, does it?

I guess that depends on what you're asking them.

True enough. I was just thinking that, if all of them are only going to give brief snippets of advice, there isn't any particular reason to seek out someone you knew in life. Then again, I suppose the quality of advice could vary.

I'm not ready to dismiss it as impossible that someone could be sensitive to spirits or echoes of the minds of people who've died. I just have a problem with the ones who come on talk shows and get money or shill their book, etc. Like you say, most of it is mealy-mouthed, stuff you could parrot from a hundred different legit sources that people would find resonating in their lives in surprisingly specific ways.

It would be cool if mediums could solve crimes and warn people about , whatever. Be like guardian angels, but for real.

Well, there ARE police psychics, right?
