I don't remember too much about my last dream, but I know a lot of people ended up dead

I just finished reading The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, and let me tell you, it doesn't make for good bedtime reading! I dreamed that I was living in Trujillo's DR, and the secrect police barged into my home, and killed my beloved Siamese cat, before taking me away to be executed. I had one last chance to hug my husband before my death. As I was holding him, I awoke. Good times. Not.

The thing about this dream is that I don't think the people who died were anyone I knew, but rather characters in a sort of subplot. So it wasn't quite as bad as actual loved ones dying, but it was still pretty disturbing.

Whereas mine was a hardcore nightmare set in Dominican Republic, some time in the fifties, with a couple walk-ons by El Jefe's thugs. I awoke with my mind spinning with the atrocities Díaz describes in his book. It's hard to believe that human beings are capable of that kind of callousness and brutality.

Do you have any idea what inspired your dream?
