Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] bethje and I went up to Hoboken, identified on a sign as the birthplace of Frank Sinatra and baseball (although there's certainly room for dispute on the latter). It's also a good rhyme for "broken," as well as "Hadoken." Anyway, we were there to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] not_glimmer, who was back from Oregon for the holidays. After finally managing to find our way after an annoying detour, we met at Gina's apartment (which is also [livejournal.com profile] therealtavie's apartment, but she wasn't there; I think she's purposely avoiding us). We went to lunch at a Japanese place called Illuzion, which was quite good and very interestingly decorated. In case you care, I had the sukiyaki. (Incidentally, the spellchecker apparently recognizes "sukiyaki," but not "Hoboken.") We got to hear some other would-be customers get really indignant at the management because they couldn't get the lunch special, like, a minute before the restaurant was supposed to stop serving it. Then we walked over to Ben & Jerry's, where we got some tasty but overpriced ice cream, and met up with Stephanie. Later on, we had dinner at the Brownstone Diner and Pancake Factory, where I had the blueberry pancakes. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have blueberries inside them like the ones my dad used to make, but they were still really good. What I really enjoyed, though, wasn't the copious food so much as the company. I rarely get the chance to see anyone outside the household for any real social interaction. I was kind of nervous and overstimulated the whole time, but it was a lot of fun.

Hi there! I stumbled across your journal on a Google search, read your profile and realised that I had to, if at all possible, friend someone who has John R. Neill, libraries and Rasputina as interests. So...okay if I add you?

Well, hey, that diner said right that menu that it's a myth that pancakes are only for breakfast. And if you can't trust a menu, then you can't trust anyone! {g}

I always thought Hoboken was an awesomely funny name for a place. Although it was actually years before I found out it was actually a real place!

Well, North Jersey also has Hackensack and Parsippany, so they're no stranger to somewhat amusing-sounding names up there.

hehe, when I was young I used to think Hackensack was made up, along with Kalamazoo and and Timbuktu.

We're not sure yet. Maybe when Beth is finished with her CPA exams. It's not really that far, though, so we'll try to come back soon!
