Is this really the final fantasy?

Today, I went with my mom to a party with my mom, which was thrown by the people she works for. It was okay. Not that exciting or anything.

There seems to be a definite trend of re-releasing classic video games these days, often with several different ones on one disc. I kind of hope they come out with some kind of collection of Dragon Warrior games. I know they already came out with a Game Boy release of the first two on one cartridge, but I'd really like to be able to play Dragon Warrior V and VI, which never came out in the States. I guess they're not popular enough here. I believe it's the most popular role-playing game series in Japan, but here, I think a lot more people are into Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy is kind of an "I was into it before it was popular" thing for me. I got the first game in the series for my thirteenth birthday, and now the more recent games are big with people who were just little kids back then. Besides, I get the idea that the later games are too modern and non-traditional for my tastes, not to mention that they're for video game systems I don't have. I played part of Final Fantasy VII and IX (as well as Dragon Warrior VII) on my brother's PlayStation, but I'd prefer to play them on, say, Beth's GameCube (if she'd let me, that is). I might check out Crystal Chronicles at some point, I guess.

Speaking of video games, I want a Game Boy Advance SP. I wish I could afford one.

The Best Buy website will let you listen to clips of all the songs from The Spine, the upcoming They Might Be Giants album. I guess I can't tell for sure from those clips, but it sounds like it's going to be a really good album.

Didn't know about the mp3 deal, although, I must admit, that I don't really care, either, mainly because I, like you, want Physical CD Copies Of Stuff. (This is the main reason I didn't join TMBG Unlimited; I want _discs_. I don't like paying for 128kbps mp3s. If I'm gonna pay for mp3s, they'd damned well best be 256 or higher. But, still, I'm still not fond of it because I like the complete and total package. I _like_ album art. I _like_ poring over the liners and all of that. I like mp3s as teasers and test drives (I mean, I've got a lot of mp3s, but if I like something, and it's buyable on CD, I buy it. Most of the mp3s that I have that aren't redundant copies are stuff that's Totally Out Of Print, or whatnot.)

I suppose Long Tall Weekend'd probably be a better comparison, though, than TMBGUnLtd, since that was actually An Album and all. But still. (I did pick up Working Undercover, though, precisely because while I could get the mp3s immediately, they were _also_ sending me a copy of it on CD. And I like that. If they'd done that with LTW, I would have been all over that. Or TMBGUnltd, too.)

Ah well. But yeah, like you said, if they're offering a package deal of Physical Artifacts, I will totally do that (and am kinda waiting for them to announce it). But if it's a deal where both EP and LP are going to come out To Stores And Everything Like A Real Release, Not A Limited Edition Deal, I'll just pick them both up separately. (Or rather, at the same time, but, not as a packaged deal.)

I'd probably also take advantage of a physical package deal, although I'd probably be concerned that a pre-ordered CD wouldn't arrive early enough. When I pre-ordered State Songs, I didn't get it until the Saturday after the official release date. As corny as it might sound, I really do want to hear The Spine as soon as I possibly can. As for the EP, I wonder whether any stores will stock it, even if it IS released to stores.

I dunno, it's sort of up in the air on Pre-Releases. I think I've had about half of the pre-orders I've got arrive _before_ the release date, and the other half arrive like, a week or two after. The latter of which is incredibly annoying. The former of which, though is pretty awesome.

(Oddly enough, I actually got my copy of Mink Car the day after it came out. Which, um, if you remember the release date, is kind of unexpected.)

I've actually seen Indestructible Object in stores, so that's a good sign as to whether or not it'd be stocked if it's released...

My copy of State Songs might have arrived earlier if I'd opted for a faster (and more expensive) shipping method, but I didn't really think it was worth the money. As it turned out, it's good I DID pre-order it, since none of the record stores in the hick town where I was attending college at the time carried it.

I was subscribed to TMBG Unlimited, and I didn't get my signed Mink Car until a few weeks after the release date. I had the MP3s to tide me over until then, though.

I've also seen Indestructible Object in stores (as well as "Why Does The Sun Shine?" and "S-E-X-X-Y," as far as TMBG EPs go), so yeah, that's a good sign.

Since I'd wager you're on the TMBG list, so you already know/probably-have-ordered-already, Flans mentioned that they did put up a CD bundle. It's 22 bucks for the both of them (including shipping), which is kinda steep, but hey, it's TMBG. The EP actually seems relatively long for an EP (6-7 songs). It's also 10 dollars alone, though. Which is kinda wacky, but as part of the bundle, it's only 3 bucks. Plus like, 5 bucks for shipping. Not sure where they're gettin' that number, but hey.

I'll probably order that soon. It's annoying that they're apparently not going to even ship them until the release date, though.

As for the shipping charge, I think that falls under the category of "because-we-can fees" that I mentioned in my most recent post. {g}
