I spent a little time playing my Pokémon from Pokémon Yellow in Beth's copy of Pokémon Stadium. (Hmm, did I overuse the word "Pokémon" in that last sentence?) In the gym battles, I beat Brock easily, but was creamed by Misty. Maybe I'll try again later. Anyway, it's neat to see the Pokémon battle with better graphics and animation. The Stadium version of Kadabra is always holding a spoon, and it falls on him when he gets knocked out. As far as the mini-games in Stadium, that one with the Rattatas jumping over hurdles annoys me. Beth is good at that one, but I suck at it. I'm pretty good with the Clefairy one, which involves memorizing patterns, but I still don't like it much. The sushi-eating one is just weird.

I still need to get my hair cut. I hate getting haircuts. I haven't gotten a good one in two years or so.

I do that when writing "résumé," too. Maybe that's why I'm having trouble finding a job. They think I'm too fancy. Or something like that. {g}

I was surprised there was any one else with Ruth Plumly Thompson as an interest. I was even more surprised your journal was called Stratovania of all things.

Sorry to leave a weird post, but I was just surprised others on this would have interests/references like that. You must have good taste.

Yeah, I didn't expect anyone else to have Thompson listed as an interest either, but I'm a big Oz fan, and I think Thompson is almost as good as (and sometimes better than) L. Frank Baum in many of her books. It's cool that someone else on LiveJournal is a fan of the post-Baum Oz books.

Right now, I'm reading Handy Mandy in Oz. After I finish that, I'll have five books of the "Famous Forty" left. I just need to find four of them, but I'm sure eBay has them. Which Thompson books do you think you like better than Baum?

I don't know for sure that any one particular Thompson book is better than the best Baum books, but there's something in her writing style that I really like. Not necessarily better than Baum, but just as good. My favorite Thompson books are probably Kabumpo, Lost King, Ojo, and Wishing Horse.
