Since Blogger seems to be down, this entry will be livejournal-only for the time being. Maybe I'll crosspost it later.

First of all, happy birthday to John Sidney Linnell, the bottom half of They Might Be Giants. I think he turns 45 today.

Speaking of TMBG, I managed to get that Clock Radio thing running yesterday, and it's pretty cool. I got to hear an interview that the band did, as well as a decent-quality version of their cover of "Savoy Truffle," which is pretty cool. By the way, I just recently found out that that song is about chocolates. Makes sense. Anyway, the Clock Radio does seem to have a bug, in that it would sometimes try to play more than one song at the same time. I seem to recall someone else mentioning that same problem.

I went to the driver's license center to get my picture retaken, and they said they couldn't do it. They'll only retake pictures in cases like disfiguring accidents and major weight loss. The one guy there told me people shouldn't give me trouble with my license photo, since it still looks like me aside from the hair. I agree with him, but at least two people have asked if it was really me. They both eventually decided it was, though, so I guess it's not a really serious problem. I do have to wonder why that rule is in place, though.

I think that particular bug comes sometimes if you switch channels back and forth. (I will do this sometimes if a song I've just heard has come up again -- both AM and FM are random playlists, EBS, though, is a set playlist.) So, if you do it in Just The Wrong Way Or Whatever, it'll play both, and you'll have to close/restart the Clock Radio. But otherwise, it's pretty neato, I think. And that's not too bad.

Didn't know they'd put Savoy Truffle on, though. I've got that on a radio promo. It's odd. Doesn't really sound like TMBG, but it's a Beatles song I really, really like, so hey. It's one of those that pretty much always surivives a hypothetical "pruning the white album to one disc" thing.

their cover doesn't sound like the beatles version either though. not nearly as good. and it's rare that i say that for a TMBG cover.

Not as good as the original, no, but I still think it's pretty good, at least based on the two times I've heard it.

I don't like TMBG's "25 O'Clock" as much as the original, either, although it's still one of the better songs on A Testimonial Dinner. I like XTC and the Beatles quite a bit anyway, though. I'm sure I could think of other TMBG covers I don't like as much as the originals, but I don't feel like going through all of them right now. {g}

i'll agree with you on 25, but it's damn close. actually though, thinking about it, i like the original of long grift better too. other than that, though... TMBG versions all the way.
