I probably should stop getting the orange juice when I get breakfast from McDonald's. It's more convenient than buying a drink elsewhere, but it's not that good and really expensive. I paid more for that one little cup that they call a "large" than I just did for 1.75 liters at the grocery store. But I guess that's always the way with drinks at restaurants. Obviously restaurant food is pretty much always more expensive, but I can justify it by saying that they're preparing and serving it for you. That's not really the case with the drinks, though. At least with soda you can get free refills, which is why I usually get soda at restaurants even though I don't drink it much otherwise. I know the cheapest and healthiest option would just be to get water, but I've come to think that water is too bland to have with a meal. Maybe there's also a bit of rebellion in ordering soda, since I always had to get water when going to restaurants with my mom. I swear there was one place we went where they actually charged for the water. It wasn't much (25 cents per cup, I"m thinking?), but that's still not right.

Earlier today, I saw a truck towing a car on a chain, which looked rather dangerous and inefficient. I think it might have been the BDSM method of towing. {g} I also passed a fire hall advertising "Progressive Bingo." I wonder what's so progressive about it. Is it more up to date than other Bingo games, or is there some kind progression within the game itself? Maybe each round becomes progressively harder. I don't know.

My car passed inspection, and I don't need to get it inspected again for another two years. That's one of several ways in which I lucked out in moving to New Jersey. In Pennsylvania, you had to get an inspection every year, and I don't think there was anywhere you could get it done for free.

I think Progressive Bingo might be where you keep moving places, so by the end you end up with a different card than you started with. This is only a guess though, based on a similar thing I did that was called "Progressive Dinner" where we kept changing plates or something. I might be misremembering though, because that seems kind of gross when I think about it.

Was this at the March Hare's house, by any chance?

Ooo, probably misremembering, because the progressive dinners I've heard of involve actually going from house to house, having one course of the meal at each house-- and, incidentally, sound awesome.

But anyway, that's an idea (for what it means) too. I was also thinking it might be, like, where when one person wins you don't immediately clear your cards so that more people can win second and third and so forth places.

Tom and I have stopped ordering drinks at restaurants for the most part, because we gave up caffeine, and for me (who does not drink sugared soda) that makes restaurant beverages all unacceptable. We get plain water and it seemed weird at first, but we were really surprised to realize how much 2 drinks adds to the tab, particularly at sit down restaurants. They're like 3 bucks a piece at some places now! So we feel pretty happy just getting water (with lemon where available) and eating out more often instead :-)

Yeah, it does seem like every soda they offer at most restaurants has either caffeine or sugar, if not both. I rarely see Diet Sprite or anything of that ilk on menus.

It's very irritating, but good for our wallets.

At your McDonalds, do they give you the OJ in the cup with the foil cap or OJ from the fountain? The ones out here do the fountain thing, and they put it in ... happy meal cups. It's a little demeaning, for a lack of words.

They use paper cups, but I don't think they're Happy Meal cups. I can't remember for sure, though.

I don't believe McDonalds has milk cartons anymore. If you're and adult, and you want milk with your breakfast, you're drinking it out of a Ronald McDonald decorated "milk jug".

Yeah, that happens to me often (I mean, "often" relative to how often I eat out anyway, which is rare)-- most places can't grasp the idea that kids aren't the only people who drink milk!

The only place I've seen the small milk cartons lately is at this local grocery store in my parts that has a cafeteria. I want to get one every time I go in there, but I usually get sushi or pizza, and that doesn't go well with milk.

I didn't drink milk even when I WAS a kid, but there have been other things I've felt that way about. The Apple Dippers at McDonald's are apparently also only for kids, because I guess only kids like fruit, or something. It also bugs me how Goldfish crackers seem to be marketed pretty much exclusively to kids.

Believe me, the only people who could possibly stand those nasty preserved apples are the less discriminating palate of a kids.

Well, I'll admit I've never tried them before, and I HAVE had some pretty bad preserved apples before. I'm not sure my palate has really changed that much since I was a kid, though.
