With all of the Indiana Jones fever (better than additional seating capacity fever) that I've seen recently, I'm somewhat ashamed to admit that, up until last night, I'd only ever seen Raiders of the Lost Ark. And that was when I was in college, and it was not at all new. I've been trying to get up to speed, and I saw Temple of Doom last night. It was a fun movie, despite the goofy cartoon physics (I guess you could even argue that they're part of the the fun, but really, doesn't the guy ever even get so much as a bruise when going through what would kill any normal person?), but I don't think I'll ever have the same love for these films as those who saw them as kids. Honestly, I felt it was considerably longer than it needed to be, which I guess is a recurring theme for movies I watched last week. In both Raiders and Temple, Indy actually finds what he's looking for pretty early on, but then there's a seemingly eternal chase sequence before the movie can end. And why were people in India practicing voodoo? Or are there similar practices in Hindu culture? I guess I really don't know.

I think I must be pretty close to the end of Final Fantasy V, but I keep dying, and that makes me not want to play the game as much. It actually isn't a boss that generally kills my party, but rather those Crystal Dragons in the Void, with their obnoxious Breath Wing attacks. I don't want this to be yet another game where I come close to the end but never finish (like Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga), but I will say that an RPG is rarely as much fun when there's really only one thing you can do, which is how they usually are towards the end.

Nobody I know really likes Temple of Doom-- I in fact have never seen it, because everyone else I would watch it with had already seen it and not liked it. So I wouldn't base your feelings on the whole franchise too much on it! My personal favorite is Last Crusade, which I think you'll like too, because it's got a lot of fun puzzle-solving bits and some great verbal jokes.

We should be getting Last Crusade pretty soon. I've known people who didn't much care for that one either, though.

Eh, the only complaints I've heard from people on that one are the ones who claim it is "too funny"-- as in, not as strictly action-movie as Raiders was. So I think you don't have to worry about that....

I saw the new one this weekend, because hubby's parent's were in town and they all wanted to see it. I have never seen any of the other ones, though. I think we're gonna get them from netflix so I am not so culturally illiterate.
