Hey, it's time for another one of my frequently written and probably rarely read music reviews! Svn Fngrs is the latest EP (or "mini-album," as I've seen it called) from Black Francis, whom I still prefer to call Frank Black. I found the album that he released under the Black Francis name, Bluefinger, to be somewhat disappointing, so I didn't have incredibly high hopes for the EP. I must say, however, that I quite like it. Here's what on it:

1. The Seus - I know at least one person on the forum who had heard this before the official release compared this to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, which isn't a good thing in my mind. It does have kind of a rock-rap sound to it, but I have to say that a pseudo-rap about Greek mythology has a lot of appeal to me.
2. Garbage Heap - This hasn't really grabbed me, but it's not bad. Frank has a lot of songs that don't do much for me at first but grow on me later, so I won't rule out that such could be the case with this one.
3. Half Man - Is it just because of the title that I think this song would have fit on Fastman Raiderman? Okay, that was a pretty diverse album, but I think this one fits the general feel of it. I probably should listen to the lyrics of this a little more carefully at some point.
4. I Sent Away - A manic little song with a lot of silly-sounding rhymes, and a harmonica solo. Possibly my favorite of the seven tracks.
5. Seven Fingers - There's a nice old-school rock sound to this song about a guy born with seven fingers and seven toes. Seven on each hand and foot rather than total, I would assume. I guess the cover art technically shows a hand with six fingers and a thumb. Really, though, even though I was an obnoxiously pedantic kid (to give just one example, after my parents told me that a person really only has ONE birthday and all the others are anniversaries of that, I insisted on calling them "anniversaries of your birth" for a while), I never totally bought that the thumb isn't a finger, even though Kermit the Frog said it wasn't. But I digress. My best guess would be that the subject of the song has a total of twenty-eight digits.
6. The Tale Of Lonesome Fetter - In this one, Frank rhymes "palace," "malice," "callous," "chalice," "Alice," and "phallus." So did he get a rhyming dictionary for Christmass, or what? {g}
7. When They Come To Murder Me - From the title, I was expecting a country sound, but I'd say it's actually more of a Pistolero-style rock number. It's pretty catchy, I would say.

And speaking of new music, I put in a pre-order for the new Dresden Dolls album, which will be out in May. I'm usually not too keen on pre-orders, since it generally means getting it after the release date. But hey, I'm supposed to get an autographed CD booklet and a chance to win in some contest. So that's cool, right?
