For those of you following the ongoing saga of my toe pain (which I'm sure is nobody at this point), you might be interested to know that, on my follow-up visit to the podiatrist, he told me that it shouldn't still be hurting. Just my luck that I would have the world's most uncooperative big toe. Maybe I should just get it cut off and replaced with a silver one. Then I could have a nickname like "Captain Silvertoe," except that I'm not actually a captain of anything. And I'm sure a silver toe would be really expensive, so for the time being, I'm just going to try the oral antibiotic and betadine solution prescribed by the podiatrist. I really hope I get over this problem soon, since it's lasted about two months so far.

I did some minor updates on my web page. Nothing at all significant, but I do like to keep it at least slightly current. Updating the CD list is always kind of annoying because I have to renumber it every time I add something. There's probably some easy way to make an automatically renumbering list, but I don't know what it is.

The HTMl for an ordered list is <ol> . You would use it with the <li> tag like this:
<ol>
<li> Album A </li>
<li> Album B </li>
<li> Album C </li>
</ol>

I have no idea if this will work in an LJ comment, but it would (possibly) display like this:

  1. Album A

  2. Album B

  3. Album C

Sorry to hear abiout your toe; that sucks.

I'll be sure to give that a try next time I update the list (which I guess could be as soon as next week, since I'm planning on picking up Frank Black's new album then, but I'll probably end up waiting until later). Thanks!

Or you could store a copy of your CD list in, whatsitsface, the spreadsheet program on your computer or some other thing that can automatically order lists, and then just copy that list into your webpage whenever you need to update?

I'm pretty sure I could make an automatic list in Word, but I don't know whether it would copy and paste properly.

I think the moment you get yourself a silver toe, you can call yourself anything you want.

What if I wanted to call myself Wart-on-the-Nose?

Your poor toe. Tom had an ongoing drama with his belly button last year which eventually resulted in (very minor) surgery that fixed it. that experienced convinced me once and for all that medicine is just throwing shit at the wall and hoping something sticks- an art and not a science, if you will.

I guess I should count myself lucky, then. On the other hand, you don't need a belly button to walk.

Well, maybe. I get the impression that medicine as a science is a lot more advanced than most individual doctors would have you believe. For various reasons, though, most patients don't get to experience the epitome of medical technology.

Ehh...I think there are some things that are much more scientifically approached than in years past- treatment for bacterial infections, and biopsies and such. That said, I think a *lot* it is still approached fairly subjectively- psychiatry and neurology are two fields that come to mind right away(what drug to try, how much etc, is a whole lotta guess work and trial and error).

I guess that pretty much goes without saying for psychology, since there seems to be a lot about the human mind we still don't really understand. And it seems like a lot of psychiatrists are still hung up on the Freudian idea that everything can be boiled down to daddy issues and sexual frustration, but I'll admit I don't really know that much about the field.

Most of Freud has been thrown out the window by modern psychology. But I was speaking more about medication to treat mental illness, and even seizures. I was surprised at how unscientific that was when I worked with disabled adults. They just kinda try different things and see if it makes you have less seizures or more. Scary.

Yeah, that seems like the kind of thing they should get sorted out before actually using it on people. But I suppose that, for all the advancements in medical science we've made, there's still a lot we don't really know.

I've been totally going through this with my back lately.

I'm surprised you didn't do some weird entry about the movie we watched and your foot and call it "Creeptoe." :p

Well, I was waiting until I'd seen both of the movies before commenting on them, but that DOES sound like a subject line I would come up with. You know me too well. {g}
