As you might have gathered if you've been checking my "current music" fields, I've been working my way through XTC's back catalog recently. "History Of Rock 'n' Roll," the last track on their rarities collection Rag and Bone Buffet, got me thinking about something. The track (which I like to use to end mixes I make) is a twenty-second retrospective of how rock music sounded from the fifties through the eighties. I figure that, if Andy Partridge were to rework the song to include the nineties, it would probably be some kind of grunge sound. But what about the current decade? Is there a musical sound of the aughts? I can't really think of any big movement in music that's emerged in the last few years.
My visit to the blood-testing place today was pretty quick. I thought I might have to leave a urine sample, but such was not the case. I had intended to break my fast with some Double Crossain'wiches from Burger King, but the drive-thru line was barely moving, and a lady told me that there was only one person working there. So I gave up that idea, and instead opted for the cheaper but messier route of making my own ham, egg, and cheese bagels. And that brings us up to the present. Now I need to soak my toe and go to bed, seeing as how I've slept less than four of the past forty hours.
