I really don't have anything to say, but I guess I might as well update anyway. My toe is feeling a lot better now, but I don't think it's healed completely. I'm not sure how much longer to keep up the soaking and the cream. I still have a lot of the cream left, so using it until I run out might be overkill. I thought of keeping it up until I ran out of the oral antibiotic I got from the regular doctor (I think it was ten days' worth), but [livejournal.com profile] bethje says I should probably keep it up for longer. Any other thoughts?

Since I don't have any other ideas, the rest of this post is going to consist of things that annoy me somewhat:

  • The LJ Message Center. What's the point of this, when I'm getting all of these notifications sent to my e-mail anyway? At one point, some things were coming through there but NOT through e-mail, even though I'd clearly set it up to get them e-mailed. Now it appears that I'm getting everything through e-mail, but the messages just keep piling up in that useless extra inbox.
  • The fact that several largely defunct Yahoo Groups that I'm subscribed to keep getting spam. I guess I could always unsubscribe, but I'd much rather they die with dignity, you know?
  • That annoying staticky sound that you get when you hold a cell phone near the computer
  • The fact that I seem to be the only one who still hasn't received the latest Baum Bugle
  • My inability to stay asleep, and the fact that I keep getting up much later than I'd like
  • Disappearing socks. Okay, now I'm getting cliché, aren't I?

Probably Beth is right. I would lean on the side of using all the cream, but if there's a LOT LOT LOT of it, then maybe not. Maybe a month, then? Just to make sure. Though, yeah. That's one of the worst things folks do with infections is not take ALL the antibiotic stuff, because then it comes back stronger. And HUNGRY FOR BLOOD.

Also, yes -- the LJ Message Center is SILLY. Please to be stopping it.

I haven't got the Baum Bugle either, if it makes you feel any better! But that's probably because I barely know what it is. Mostly from intuition, I can figure it out.

RE: Socks -- Hey, man, that's what happens when folks vote Republican.

Yeah, I definitely plan to take all of the oral antibiotic (there are only three pills left anyway, so it wouldn't make sense NOT to). The problem with the cream is that there's really no indication as to how much I should use, so I can't really calculate when I should stop based on how much is left. A month would probably make sense, if it lasts that long, but I'm getting pretty tired of wearing a Band-Aid on my toe.

I think it's getting to the point where I wouldn't be surprised if people who don't even subscribe to it will get it before I do.

You should always take the full course of antibiotics. The cream you don't have to use all of since that would just be topical, but finish the oral ones or else you'll just kill off the weaker bacteria, the stronger ones will develop resistance, etc.... you know the drill.

oh wait, I think I misread your question. I would say, definitely finish the oral ones, and keep up the cream usage until you're confident it's healed.

That makes sense, but it might be difficult to tell when it's totally healed. I guess not feeling any pain there would be a good starting point, but there might still be some level of infection lingering even then.

The LJ Message center is very very annoying.

Seriously, what were the LJ programmers THINKING when they came up with that?

I just never go to that page on lj. I have a link to my friends page on my homepage, and most of the time get here directly from my email responses.

I don't go there very often either, but it's still annoying to see the "Message Center" announcement with all of the allegedly unread messages at the top of the page. (I currently have 147 messages there, apparently.) I tend to be pretty obsessive-compulsive about keeping inboxes neat, so the fact that I keep seeing reports of another one that's full of crap irritates me.
