My roommate decided to shave two of the cats, because they were shedding so much. I can't say I agree with the idea, but it was done nonetheless. Here are some pictures:

I don't think the pictures I took really do justice to how weird Cracker looked right after being shaven. He looked kind of like someone had pasted his head onto the body of a skinny hairless cat. It WAS about a week in between the original shaving and this picture, but still.

The baldness shows up better in the pictures of Anderson. And he still has a fluffy tail, which looks strange without the fluffy coat to go with it.

Just for comparison, here are pictures of Cracker and Anderson that were taken back in December:

And this last picture is of Pumpkin, the third cat who lives here. She's eighteen years old and really cranky. She bit [livejournal.com profile] bethje at one point, and drew blood. When I first moved in here, she really didn't like me, but she seems to have grown used to me. She likes to sleep in my room near the bookshelf, as you can see in this picture.

The state just sent me a notice saying I owe them money. Not much money, to be sure, but I don't think I actually owe anything. The customer service center will open at 8:30 tomorrow, so I'm going to have to call and try to get this straightened out. I was really hoping to avoid this kind of thing by double-checking everything before filing my taxes.

Poor kitties! Though, they're actually probably much cooler now, and perhaps happier. But presumably, the actual act of shaving the kitties wasn't too much fun for them.

No, Cracker definitely didn't enjoy it. I wasn't around for the Anderson-shaving.

I need to finish shaving Riley. He was really squirmy and Scot didn't get to take off as much fluff as we wanted to. I don't think shaving hurts the cats; it's just an indignity. :)

Yeah, probably. Hey, it would be for me, too. Fortunately, I don't shed like they do. {g}

Thanks.

Actually, I'm not sure why I'm thanking you, since I didn't shave them. :P Oh, well. I DID hold Cracker's back legs down when Patti shaved him, though.

Wow. Good job on that cat shaving thing - they look shaved, but not pathetic.

How do you shave a cat without getting shredded?

With Cracker, Dorothea held down his front legs and I held down his back legs, while Patti shaved him. He doesn't like being held even in the best of circumstances, and he definitely didn't like that. Anderson was shaved by a professional (at PetSmart, I believe).

Ok, shaved cats weren't as shocking as I thought they were going to be. They probably look worse in person though XD
