No Milkshakes Today
May. 28th, 2007 06:09 pmWhile I haven't done any Sims-playing all that recently, I remember how often I'd try to force my Sims to stay in bed after their energy meters had filled up, so they would be well-rested for work. Today, I was basically doing that with myself. My sleeping schedule had gotten so screwed up over the weekend, and I didn't want to end up going to work after being awake for pretty much a whole day.
So, yesterday, I went with
bethje to Atlantic City, where we saw Herman's Hermits at Resorts. It was fun, and it was really the first (for lack of a better term) nostalgia concert I'd been to [1], so that was interesting. It was quite short, probably for the benefit of all the weird old people in the audience, many of them probably older than Peter Noone himself. [2] So many of them were eager to share anecdotes with any stranger they came across, which made me wonder whether those of us with blogs are getting all of those anecdotes out of the way a little at a time, so we won't find it as necessary to tell people a whole bunch of them when we're old. I suppose only time will tell.
After the show, we had a bad dining experience at Johnny Rockets. The service there usually isn't that great, but it is a small place that's almost always filled to capacity, so I can generally forgive them somewhat. Our waitress this time, though, was slow, forgetful, and outright mean. She had to be asked twice to get honey mustard for Beth, and gave me the wrong soda at one point, but these weren't all that significant in and of themselves. It was the dessert fiasco that bothered us. The waitress was apparently eager to get rid of us, since instead of practically begging us to get dessert as most waiters seem to do, she tried to just give us the check. When we asked for shakes, she went away for a while, finally coming back and asking what flavors we wanted again. Then, after another wait, she came back to tell us they were out of ice cream. I'm not sure she was telling the truth. I mean, if I were running a place that advertised shakes all over the place, and we were out of ice cream, I'd at least put a sign on the door or something. When she gave us the check, it still had the shakes we didn't get on there, and it took her forever to get them taken off. She tried to appease us by giving us shakes that she had found sitting around, in flavors nowhere close to the ones we had asked for. Beth managed to talk her into giving them to us for free, but she then acted all irritated when we admitted we didn't like them, as if we were supposed to be grateful that she gave us some junk she'd found lying around. So, yeah. My bacon cheeseburger was good, but that's about all that was.
There's apparently a lot of forgetfulness going around, though, because I forgot to take out the trash today. At least it wasn't a recycling week, because then we would have ended up with four weeks' worth of recycleables for next time.
Anyway, happy Memorial Day to those of you who celebrate it. And happy birthday to
annarama.
[1] Actually, I guess the Pixies sort of count, since they played almost all old songs when I saw them. The people who liked them the first time around still aren't that old now, though, so it was hardly the same kind of experience.
[2] As a tangent, does anyone else find it somewhat odd when they listen to music made by someone younger than you? I mean, I do that sometimes, but it always seems kind of weird. The people who entertain me should be my elders, damn it! :P I guess it doesn't make any sense to retain that rule into old age, though. {g}

Date: 2007-05-29 09:25 pm (UTC)I'm so jealous of her and that Maggie from the Monkee Business Fanzine (she was from Trenton, interestingly enough). I guess I'll have to settle for the weirdo picture of me with Peter Noone from about ten years ago and the handshake from Peter Noone that I got Sunday. He shook Nathan's hand, too. Peter Noone is so cool. I wish he'd be my friend, but it ain't no good to pine. ;P
