Yesterday, it was raining a lot, which might have been what prompted my dream about sewers backing up and flooding an entire town with disgusting sewer water. I also had a dream about a story where someone flew into Oz, but since it was sort of like a commercial flight, I thought it might not be appropriate. I'm not sure whether or not I was actually WRITING this story, but I do remember using maps to plan out where the flight would enter the country.
Earlier today, it actually started snowing, even though it wasn't supposed to be cold enough for that. I overheard someone mentioning the governor declaring a State of Emergency, although I'm not sure I'd put too much stock in that. Do we really want someone who doesn't wear a seatbelt making decisions regarding other people's safety? Anyway, I'd really like for spring weather to start at some point. I could do without the seasonal allergies that I tend to get in spring, but the severity of those varies from one year to another. When I was a kid, it seemed like I got really bad allergies every other year.
Speaking of climate-related issues, I've heard mentions from the media about Congress wanting to introduce a bill to reduce emissions to a 1990 level. Well, I was around in 1990, and, well, people were talking about the dangers of global warming and greenhouse gases back then, too. Yeah, small steps and all that, but it sounds like a rather small, arbitary goal. Actually, 1990 was around when everybody was talking about the hole in the ozone layer, which seems to have fallen under the radar nowadays, at least as far as media talking points go.

Date: 2007-04-16 09:55 pm (UTC)I remember all the recyclable products coming out in the early 90's in response to this. Like fabric detergent refills, I remember Jergens lotion had one too (it was a squeeze tube of Jergens that you would squeeze into your old Jergens bottle) notebook paper that had the recycle symbol on the corners, the plastic sided recyclable Coke cans (wait, those were from the 80's...), the nationwide introduction of canvas grocery bags, and back when Wal Mart (and Super Fresh perhaps) had those blue recyclable bags.
