I had a dream where I was at a store that sold posters, and I found one of Dorothy's companions in The Wizard of Oz (the movie version) for $15. There was another poster I was interested in as well, but I can't remember what it was. I think I eventually made up my mind to buy them, but I was getting ready to leave by that point. There was also a dream (or possibly another segment of the same dream) where I was reading an Oz book, part of which involved a few Oz characters arriving in the United States and riding a train with someone named Ian Carlo, who claimed to be famous, but the Ozites had no way of knowing who he was. I think two of the transported Ozites were Button-Bright and Betsy Bobbin, who grew to adulthood upon leaving Oz, and had a romantic fling. In another part of the story, Button-Bright had to rescue Unc Nunkie from a dungeon, and Unc said something about the train. I think he mentioned the Underground Railroad (which didn't even make sense in the dream, seeing as how that wasn't, like, an actual RAILROAD) and a Brandon Carlo who was presumably a relative of Ian's. I looked up the names on Google, but about all I could find was that there's an Italian actor named Ian Carlo Rosado, and a Brandon DeCarlo who's a member of some hardcore band. I'm pretty sure the stuff about the train was inspired by the part in March Laumer's The Vegetable Man of Oz in which Dorothy, Betsy, and Trot end up on a bus with Buddy Ebsen.
The most recent episode of Bullshit! was largely a return to the older style, where they debunk a popular medical fallacy, in this case the idea that the human body is full of toxins that can be removed by such methods as colonic irrigation or drinking an expensive product that's basically sugar water. It wasn't one of my favorite episodes, but I think they're usually better able to prove their point when they have actual science on their side, rather than the "Look at these dumbass hippies who disagree with us!" approach that they take on more opinion-driven issues. But don't worry; they still managed to work in a large-breasted topless chick. And when I say "large-breasted," I'm not talking mere double-D's.
While trying to catch up on my friends page, I noticed that
arfies linked to this article on Battle Cry. I know I've questioned the use of violent, militaristic language by members of a religion founded by a notorious pacifist before, but this pretty much takes the cake. It's amusing that the last page mentions Christian rapper KJ-52, because
bethje and I totally saw one of his videos on a religious TV station. The song was basically a total Eminem ripoff.
Finally, from a link on the
tmbg community, listen to John Flansburgh discuss popular hoaxes in the world of rock music. It's really quite interesting.
