My Sims 2 neighborhood appears to have both a nanny and a maid named Karen Gast. Are they related, or are they the same person at two different stages of life, both co-existing due to a temporal anomaly? Maybe I should figure out some way to make them meet, and see if the Sim universe collapses. {g}

I've managed to accomplish several things in the game, but have yet to create a community lot. Actually, I never did that in the original Sims either, despite having all of the expansion packs. Maybe I should try it at some point. Are there any other interesting things in the game that I might not know about offhand?

And here are some more things that I got from [livejournal.com profile] majellen:

Guy Smiley
You scored 50% Organization, 50% abstract, and 25% extroverted!
This test measured 3 variables.

First, this test measured how organized you are. Some muppets like Cookie Monster make big messes, while others like Bert are quite anal about things being clean.

Second, this test measured if you prefer a concrete or an abstract viewpoint. For the purposes of this test, concrete people are considered to gravitate more to mathematical and logical approaches, whereas abstract people are more the dreamers and artistic type.

Third, this test measured if you are more of an introvert or an extrovert. By definition, an introvert concentrates more on herself and an extrovert focuses more on others. In this test an introvert was somebody that either tends to spend more time alone or thinks more about herself.

You are mostly organized, both concrete and abstract, and more introverted.

Here is why are you Guy Smiley.

You are both mostly organized. You have a good idea where you put things and you probably keep your place reasonably clean. You aren't totally obsessed with neatness though. Guy Smiley is your average Joe. He'll dress up and look nice for his game show, but he's not a neat freak.

You are both a concrete and abstract thinker. Guy Smiley uses his imagination to come up with ridiculous game shows. However he's concrete enough to stick by his rules and perform his role as host. You know when to be logical at times, but you also aren't afraid to explore your dreams and desires... within limits of course.

You are both introverted. At first glance Guy Smiley may appear to be an extrovert given he hosts a popular show. But in reality he struggles to relate with other people. His prizes tend to just be Guy Smiley merchandise. For whatever reason you are a bit uncomfortable in social settings. You may have one or two people that you are close with. You'd rather do things by yourself and you dislike working in groups where things are always so inefficient.

The other possible characters are
Oscar the Grouch
Bert
Snuffleupagus
Ernie
Elmo
Kermit the Frog
Grover
Cookie Monster
Big Bird
The Count

If you enjoyed this test, I would love the feedback! Also if you want to tell me your favorite Sesame Street character, I can total them up and post them here. Perhaps your choice will win!

This is one of the better quizzes I've taken recently, if only because of the trivia on each page. Is it true that Cookie Monster was created for a potato chip commercial?

I'm hungry, but I think I'll wait until after I've slept a little while before getting any food. I'm thinking maybe I'll order a pizza. I've had plenty of pizza recently, but it's pretty much all been the frozen variety.

I really should start my taxes soon, shouldn't I? I don't think they'll be that hard to do, but the fact that I was a resident of two states in 2006 might complicate matters.

You know what sucked on Sims 2? One time, I had a sim couple adopt twice and both times, it was a little girl named Gretchen, so they were both Gretchen Whatever, in the same house. They looked different, but still!

Well, see, the orphanage once had a director who named all the girls "Gretchen," to make things easier. {g}

So far, my Sims have adopted a Sharon and a Katy. Aren't there any boys available for adoption? For that matter, both of the babies who've been born to Sim parents were also girls. But I have two more pregnant Sims, so I'll see if the pattern holds.

so they were both Gretchen Whatever, in the same house.

So it was like George Foreman's house, then? {g}

who knew your computer was such an estrogen factory! you may want to take that thing to an OB/PC/GYN to have that looked at.

And I'd already created two couples with daughters, so it looks like the next generation of that Sim neighborhood will be awfully female-dominated.

By the way, when I was playing about an hour ago, another one of my Sims had a baby. Guess what sex it turned out to be? :P

Creating community lots can be interesting but tricky. I have a little strip mall that I created that I like (but I have several expansion packs, so it's a bit easier to get some variety)

The food store stuff is annoying, because basically ALL of the interactive items will buy all your groceries at once.

I was thinking of maybe making a mall and/or a park.

The food store stuff is annoying, because basically ALL of the interactive items will buy all your groceries at once.

I have to wonder why the grocery deliveries always consist of the items necessary to make a few very different meals. Actually, since there's a soy substitute for just about everything nowadays, maybe the Sims really just buy a whole lot of soybeans. {g}

Which expansion packs do you have? I'm definitely interested in the Pets one (which was probably my favorite for the original Sims as well), but I'm not sure what all of the others are about. I know there's University, Night Life, Seasons, and probably some others I'm forgetting about.

Um, let's see...
University, pets, "Family Fun Pack" which is just objects, and Open for Business. I want to get Nightlife, but every time I go to get it, the store is oddly sold out of it. The most intriguing feature is that your sim gets their own car!

The Pets one is pretty cool. University is also fun but has some annoyances. All of them give you the opportunity to lock your sims doors to prevent different people/animals from entering/exiting. If you do get pets, my advice is to put a fence around your property with a gate, and lock the gate to all animals.

Open for Business is the hardest one, IMHO. I have yet to really master it.

From: [identity profile] vovat.livejournal.com
Does Open for Business involve running shops or something? I remember that being able to run a store was an idea that was considered for the original game's Hot Date expansion, although it didn't actually make it.

Sims getting their own cars sounds cool, although I have to wonder if it's one of those things that everyone is clamoring for, but that ends up being a bit disappointing. Where would you drive that you can't already reach with a taxi?

I do think they should make a Family Vacation expansion, complete with kids asking, "Are we there yet?" and highway rest stops. And if we go by the stereotypes, a driving male Sim's Fear would presumably be asking for directions. :P

University is also fun but has some annoyances.

So just like a real university, then? {g}

gasp! karen gast is leading a double life! ;) moonlighting as a maid!

the thing about community lots i always hated is that they've always taken longer to load for me. probably because i tend to bog my game down with oodles of downloads. but i can't help it if maxis' items are minimal and ugly as sin! ;P

i actually spend more time "window shopping" objects and downloading them than i do playing the actual game, somehow that's more gratifying i guess. but when i do get in cycles of playing it, the lots help add some variety to the game. and your sim can make new friends and buy magazines and whatnot. {g}

She had one hell of a facelift, too. {g}

At least Sims 2 lets you get things in different colors. In the first game, if you wanted a bed or couch that didn't have the same approximate Comfort level as a board, you had to get either the green four-poster or the vibrating sex bed, and either the light green or the red sofa. Most of my houses ended up being furnished very similarly.

and your sim can make new friends and buy magazines and whatnot.

I thought the magazines in the first Sims game were annoying, largely because my game had some kind of bug that would sometimes make them disappear. Even when they worked properly, though, it took a long time before they'd read enough to change their interests significantly. At one point, I tried to get my Sims interested in things I thought they SHOULD be interested in, but I eventually gave up on that. I kind of think they should let you customize interests when creating a Sim.

If I'm remembering correctly, I think PA & NJ have a reciprocal relationship where you only have to pay one state tax...but maybe that's only if you work in one & live in the other. So, don't take my word for it.

When I lived in Pennsylvania and worked in New Jersey, I got a refund for all the taxes that were withheld in NJ. Since I lived AND worked in both states this year, I really don't know how it will work. I don't THINK I'll have to pay the same taxes twice, but I guess I'll have to see.

You know, now that you mention it, I thought I had to do something similar when I moved from Pennsylvania to Maryland. I had to fill out the dates at the top for a partial year rather than the full tax year, then had to divide my earnings by the time I was actually there. It was described in the "filing for a partial year" section of the state filing instructions.
