I've now read 182 pages of Toto of Oz, which is twenty-two chapters out of thirty. I think I've also read most of John Swartzwelder's Double Wonderful, although I don't have the book here with me to check. They're both short books, so it's not like I'm a speed reader or something. But I am reminded of how [livejournal.com profile] bethje has told me that she enjoys being in the middle of reading a good book. I, on the other hand, tend to hurry through them. I guess I'm pretty much the same way with food. People say that you should savor foods you enjoy, but I want to eat things I like quickly, and then have more. Sometimes, however, there IS no more, and I guess that'll also be the way with Oz books after I'm done Toto. But I do like to have finished a book, because then I can mull it over and discuss it with other people (not that I know very many other people who have read Toto, but I can still write a review on my journal). I was wondering what other people's thoughts on the matter are, and since I think I'm now able to make polls, I might as well go ahead and try that.

In other entertainment news, one of my Sims just died of old age, and it was pretty crazy. The Grim Reaper showed up with hula girls, and Hawaiian music played. As I suspected, it doesn't take that long for an elder Sim to end up in the grave. I guess there's always that Elixir of Life for Sims I want to keep around. How does that work, anyway?

If you take the elixir when your sim is in the platinum/gold mood, it will add three days to their life. If you take it when they are in a green or below mood, it takes three days off. (Helpful if you want to age your teenage sims faster)

How many times can a Sim use it, and how many uses can you get out of it? I was kind of hoping it would expand a Sim's life for longer than three days, because that's not really that long when you get right down to it. I guess that means that, if you want to keep working on a house and don't want to cheat, the Sims living there pretty much have to have kids and/or get new people to move in.

I'm not sure how many times they can use it, but I think it's between 5-8.

One thing you can do is move different families in with current ones. Like, say, you have a teen sim that grows to an adult. One of their wants is to find their own place. So you have them do that, and then go to the neighborhood screen, pick that sim and place them back in the original house. It's kind of silly, but who hasn't had to move back in with their parents a time or two?

And that satisfies their wants? Wow, they're apparently not all that bright. {g}

I've only had one Sim grow to adulthood, and so far she hasn't been interested in getting her own place.

No, it just satisfies their want of moving into a new place, not all of their wants. I think (can't remember, it's been a while since I've done it)it does reset all of their meters to the default setting though.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I didn't think it would satisfy, say, a want to eat cereal or have a baby. {g} I'm just surprised they'd think the same old house was a new one. I guess you can chalk it up to a bug in the game, or perhaps short-term memories on the Sims' parts.

I'm surprised they're able to move into a house where other people are already living. Or is this only if they're the only ones living there?

No, as long as there are 8 or less sims combined, you can take anyone and move them in. It works nicely when you want families with different names, or roommates, or such. :)

That's kind of cool, but also pretty weird, when you think about it. ("Hey, we don't know you, but we're moving into your house!") But then, you already have the ability to move these people's stuff around and tell them what to eat and where to work, so I guess giving them unwanted roommates just follows suit. {g}

Oh! If your Sim dying has a loved one, you can make them plead for the life of the dying sim. It's an interaction with the Grim Reaper, but it goes by FAST.

Yeah, I knew that was possible, but not really how to do it. When this particular Sim was dying, it took me a while to realize what was happening, and the interaction had probably passed by then. I DID successfully plead with Death in the original Sims, and ended up with a zombie.

I have to vote that I never read books twice, but the truth is I SELDOM read books twice. I take forever to get through books (as much as I hate that) and I just have too many books to get to for me to go back an re-read a book. I have re-read some books that I read in school at such a hurried pace that I couldn't enjoy them the first time around... and some books I read when I was younger I have re-read... but of the listed choices, I have to choose the Never answer.

I like reading everybody's answers for the books they've read the most. I especially like how everyone has a different answer!
