I have little to report right now. I keep thinking I should do a rebuttal to Dave Hardenbrook's Oz 2.0 essay, but I'm pretty sure no one would be interested. (For those of you who don't know, Dave was the maintainer of the Ozzy Digest and its successor Nonestica, both the premiere Oz forums of their time. He was working on a series of books in which Ozma was courted by a carbon copy of himself, but only the first one (The Unknown Witches of Oz), has actually been published. It was a pretty good story, but hardly as sophisticated as his mission statement seems to be implying. I kind of wonder what happened to him. He had another forum called Nonestica-Alt, which was allegedly intended for more adult discussion of Oz. When I was subscribed to it, though, it seemed to consist pretty much entirely of: 1) Oz-related pornography, and 2) bitter passive-aggressive bad-mouthing of people on the main Nonestica list. Yeah, that's some real adult behavior right there, huh? I don't know what it's like now, or whether it even exists anymore, because I was removed from the member list. No reason was provided, but I suspect it had to do with my apparently being part of the evil Old Guard Dave was always ranting about.

I suppose I should also point out that my dad and his wife Barbara came to visit on Sunday, and took [livejournal.com profile] bethje and me out to eat at the Olive Garden. I had the seafood alfredo, which was good, but a little light on the actual seafood. And yesterday, I got a birthday card from [livejournal.com profile] slfcllednowhere and a letter from the director of the Honors College that I attended. The letter talks about a newsletter that I don't think I've ever received, although I seem to recall [livejournal.com profile] rockinlibrarian mentioning it.

Man, getting up early is annoying. And it'll be even worse next week. I'm no morning person.

So the card got through ok even though the tape didn't? Weird. I guess I'll just try sending it again.

Yeah, it doesn't really make sense. A few months ago, though, someone tried to send a book to my current address, and it was returned to him. Then he sent it again without changing any of the information, and it got through just fine. So I'd just try again, and if it doesn't go through this time, you can complain at the post office or something.

Then you're apparently one of those people she was talking about when she said some of the newsletters didn't make it (got one of those letters too-- though I DID get the newsletter). I wish the car sticker thingie was a static cling thing instead of an actual sticker-- I might actually put it in my car then. Incidentally, where does Goebel find time to write handwritten individualized letters to all her former students, anyway? Aren't there at least 600 of us by now? Or is it just us since we were the first class and are therefore special?

I was thinking I might not have gotten the newsletter because of my semi-recent address change. If it had been sent to my mom's house, though, I'd think she would have mentioned it by now. But maybe not.

Hmm, the one I got wasn't handwritten.

Maybe. I guess mine was one of the later letters, then.
