[livejournal.com profile] bethje and I went out to eat at the Olive Garden last night. I had the Mediterranean Shrimp Scampi, which wasn't as good as I would have hoped, but was still pretty good. For an appetizer, we tried the cheese fondue, which was quite tasty, but difficult to eat. It stuck together, so when we tried to get some out of the bowl, it all wanted to come out together.

I've recently heard tell of people lining up (or, in some cases, hiring homeless people to line up) for the PlayStation 3. It seems kind of pointless, considering that I'm sure they'll be readily available for a lower price before too much time has elapsed. On the other hand, I can understand the appeal of getting something when it first comes out. I like to do that with new CD's, after all. While I'm a bigger fan of Nintendo products, I'd probably get a PlayStation if I had a lot of money. It seems to be the system of choice for the Dragon Warrior/Quest and Final Fantasy games, which I was introduced to through Nintendo. I have no desire to get an XBox, though. Part of it is a general distaste for Microsoft products, although I tend to like MSNBC and have no objection to Slate magazine, so I suppose that distaste doesn't hold across the board. What good games does the XBox have, though?

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In April I got in line at the supermarket at the same time as someone else and I didn't yield (-8 points). In August I donated bone marrow to [livejournal.com profile] sailorptah in a life-saving procedure (300 points). Last month I ruled Iran as a kind and benevolent dictator (700 points). In January I pulled over and changed [livejournal.com profile] petie_s's flat tire (15 points). In November I ate my brussel sprouts (1 points).

Overall, I've been nice (1008 points). For Christmas I deserve a Lego set!

Sincerely,
vovat

Finally, this fan-made video for Weird Al's "Do I Creep You Out?" features an animated hybrid of Al and Taylor Hicks. If THAT doesn't creep you out, I'm not sure what will. {g}

Xboxes always seem to be woofully undercooled. It always seems that each time a new one comes out, the first batch has to be recalled for overheating or starting fires. :P

I enjoy my Playstation 2 a lot right now, but, like you, I see no reason to stand in line for one. I mean, if you're trying to get one now to make sure you have it for Christmas, fine. But a lot of people buy new gaming systems up and then turn around and sell them for 2-3 times as much money as they paid for them. It's like a geek investment. I figure they will keep making PS2 games for quite some time, and it will be just as long before they have much of a selection for purely PS3 games. *shrug* It's just not worth it to me to pay that much for that little.

Plus, often times, when CDs are released, you can find a lot of stores that put the new release on sale. So, it's cheaper to buy them when they come out.

Didn't it also crash during a demonstration? Or am I thinking of one of the more recent versions of Windows?

Now that I think of it, I think that was Windows. Bill Gates himself was about to show it off when the computer crashed. Nice!

Jason got a used PS2 for Christmas last year-- and they're still coming out with games for it! Definitely worth it to wait 'til you can get them used and cheap, I say-- they still work!

One of the cool things about PlayStations is that they're backwards compatible, so if you get a PS3, you can play games made for the other two versions.
