If I had a paid account and the power to make polls, maybe I'd make one on what everyone's favorite flavor of Twin Pop is. Personally, I prefer the grape. When I was a kid, though, my mom liked the grape and cherry but not the orange, so she'd often give me the orange ones. The orange might be my least favorite, but perhaps that's due to overexposure in my youth. Sort of like how I no longer like to eat Lebanon bologna or chicken legs.

[livejournal.com profile] bethje and I watched one movie in each of the past two nights. On Friday, it was Re-Animator, which was pretty good. We'd seen Jeffrey Combs, who played Herbert West in the film, speak at Monster-Mania, and he came across at pretty arrogant. More to the point, though, he advised people to watch the unrated version of the movie, rather than the R-rated one. So we were kind of disappointed when the Netflix sleeve identified the disc we got as being rated R. When we actually watched the movie, though, it didn't include the extra scenes that are supposed to be in the R-rated version, though, so maybe the sleeve rating was a mistake. I don't know. Is adding deleted scenes back in for edited-for-content versions something that's done anymore? I remember my dad had the network TV versions of Blazing Saddles and The Naked Gun, both of which had stuff that wasn't in the regular versions. With Re-Animator, people involved in making the film said the deleted scenes were deleted for a reason, and that the movie is better without them. I haven't seen these scenes, but from what I've heard of them, this is probably true.

Last night's movie was Hostel, which sucked. Nothing happened for the longest time, and when something finally DID, there was no real suspense or anything. If I may digress for a minute, I was reading the discussion of The Land of Oz, and I noticed a comment from David Hulan (who, incidentally, has been pretty much absent from online Oz discussion as of late; I wonder what happened to him) saying that Land was "pretty much the classic 'idiot plot', meaning that if the lead characters would stop acting like
idiots for five minutes, the story would end right there." I think that description is even more appropriate for Hostel. But one particular messed-up thing about Hostel that even bad movies usually get pretty much right was the soundtrack. The music would occasionally swell in a way that usually indicates something important is being revealed, and then it would show...nothing! At least twice, it just panned around a normal-looking scene after this. And it's not like this scenery would eventually become important. It's like the music was cued up incorrectly or something.

This survey is from [livejournal.com profile] rockinlibrarian:

1. What's your opinion on sex without emotional commitment?
I don't have any serious objection to it, as long as both people are on the same page, and the proper protection is employed.

2. Do you bite your toenails?
No.

3. Are you a jealous person?
Sometimes.

4. What are you allergic to?
Mostly pollen, but probably other things as well

5. What books, if any, have made you cry?
I can't recall any offhand, but that doesn't mean it's never happened.

6. Does it get annoying when somebody says they'll call you, but doesn't?
Definitely, unless I didn't really want to hear from them in the first place. :P

7. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Peach

8. Whos car were you in last?
My own

9. What would you rather be doing right now?
I can't really think of anything. I just wish I had more time.

10. What song lyrics, if any, are stuck in your head at the moment?
None

11. What are your plans for the rest of the day?
I'm going to spend more time on the Internet, and watch the typical Sunday night lineup of animated shows on Fox.

12. What did you dress up as for your Halloween?
I didn't.

13. What's your favorite TV show, now or in the past?
The Simpsons

14. Do you get along better with the same or opposite sex?
I don't know that I have a preference. I used to think I got along better with girls, but maybe I just WANTED that to be true, for whatever reason. I think maybe I'm less scared of girls, but once I know a person, the gender doesn't really matter that much. I don't think I'd get along well with anyone who's stereotypically masculine OR feminine, though, as I am interested in neither sports nor makeup. (Incidentally, I was thinking I would give this survey a miss until I saw this question, because it was something I'd been considering recently.)

15. Can others make you cry easily?
Yes

16. Who was the last person to piss you off?
I can't recall, but I'm sure it wasn't too long ago.

17. Are you picky about spelling and grammar?
Oh, yes. I think I'm not as bad about it as I used to be, though.

18. Do you pay attention to calories on the back of packages?
I'll sometimes read the backs of packages, but I don't pay attention to calories.

19. If you could be any type of fruit what would you be?
A banana

20. If you could EAT any type of fruit, what would it be?
It would be nice to have some blueberries, but I don't think they're in season now.

21. If you could own any type of fruit tree (and it would actually grow and blossom in whatever climate you're in), what kind would it be?
Probably a peach tree

22. Would you rather have cake or pie?
Depends on the kind, but usually cake. I like pie, but the crust can get a bit annoying.

23. How many hours of sleep do you need to function?
I don't know that there's any set number, but it seems like I never get enough.

24. What is your favorite alcoholic drink?
Fuzzy Navel, I guess

25. When was the last time you slept on the floor?
I don't remember.

26. Have you ever been attracted to someone but physically unattracted to them?
I'm sure I have, but attraction of other kinds often leads to physical attraction in my mind.

27. What personality trait is a must-have in the preferred sex?
It sounds clichéd, but I'm going to say a sense of humor.

28. Do you enjoy traveling via airplanes?
No, it's too boring.

29. Would you ever date someone covered in tattoos?
I seriously doubt it, as I tend to find tattoos rather unattractive, but I can't say I'd totally rule it out.

30. What song are you currently listening to?
A mix of both versions of "She Thinks She's Edith Head," by They Might Be Giants

31. Do you believe that the guy should pay on the first date?
No. I'm sort of inclined to think that whoever asked the other person out should pay, unless both people work something else out. I'm not a big fan of sexist expectations about what guys and girls SHOULD do.

32. Are you currently wanting any piercings or tattoos?
Not at all.

33. Which do you make: dreams or plans?
Both

34. Can you speak any languages other than English?
I took a lot of German and a year of Latin in school, but I can't say I'm fluent in either one.

35. What is your favorite salad dressing?
Honey mustard

36. What movies do you know every line to?
I don't know if there are any, but I'm probably closest on The Wizard of Oz and UHF.

37. Have you ever dated one of your best friends?
The only person I've ever dated was one of my best friends first, yes.

38. Has anyone told you a secret this week?
If they did, I wouldn't tell you. :P

39. When was the last time someone hit on you?
No one ever hits on me. Not that I want them to, mind you.

40. What is your favorite position to sleep in?
On my back

41. Do you wear flip-flops even when its cold outside?
I don't wear flip-flops even when it's WARM outside.

42. If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I think I'd have to say pizza.

43. How many siblings do you have?
Two

44. What's the sweetest thing you've ever done for someone?
I don't know. As Amy said, don't ask ME that.

How long do you have to spend on the road for it to count as a "road trip"?

46. What are you wearing?
Black pants, black socks, and a gray Super Mario Bros. T-shirt

47. Name 5 all time favorite bands:
TMBG, XTC, Frank Black, the Young Fresh Fellows, and Camper Van Beethoven. Those are the five I typically list, anyway. It's actually been a while since I've listened to much CVB.

Nathan, Nate, Nolan, and Nolo

49.Who is in the house with you?
Three cats, one of whom is on my lap

50. Who are you thinking about right now?

Hmmm...I do not have a paid account yet I have the ability to make polls. Do you have the type of account that has ads on it? That's what I use. Only because I find that yes, most people just ignore the ads, and most people who read me have me f-listed anyway and just catch me on their (ad-free) friends page.

I have a basic account, and it says that I'd have to upgrade to Plus or Paid to make polls. I assume you're using Plus? It's probably true that people rarely even notice the ads, but I really don't see any major advantage to upgrading. (Yes, I'd be able to make polls, but I doubt I'd do it that often anyway.)

I am a cherry girl, myself.

I only saw the end of Hostel but I was pretty uninterested in what little I did see.

Well, if you didn't like the end, I doubt you'd care for the beginning, unless you really like lots of gratuitous footage of topless women. (That's not to say that I have anything against topless women, mind you, but such footage is hardly the ideal way to start a thriller.)

Well, if you also like lack of plot and poor soundtracks, maybe it's for you!

Root beer. Actually, all the flavors in the Odd Flavors variety, you know, the one that comes with root beer, banana, and lime. But if I'm stuck with the typical variety, I guess I'll pick purple. I mean grape. Seriously, come on, it's purple flavor. No grapes actually taste like purple flavor.

Eh, it's probably closer to tasting like grapes than the cherry is to tasting like actual cherries.

I don't care much for root beer, so I doubt I'd be that fond of the Odd Flavors variety.
