Act 1 - They Meet
Oct. 17th, 2006 01:05 amI had a dream last night where
bethje and I were at some kind of arcade or something, and we had to watch a little kid who was hanging around. There was also something about a garbage truck (or some kind of truck, anyway) with people jumping on and off.
Here's a survey from

Um...I'm not sure there's any part of my music collection that ISN'T geeky.
2. What do you eat when you raid the fridge late at night?

3. What is your secret guaranteed weeping movie?
I can't think of one.
4. If you could have plastic surgery, what would you have done?

If I have things to do, I'll usually get clothes together and wash my face. If not, I've been known to go straight to the computer.
What are you doing right now besides reading this post?
Reading the post I got this from, you mean? I can't remember, but probably listening to music.
Amy also did something where she listed when and how she met all the people on her friends list that she's actually met in person (which, for her, was all of them). I'm going to try to expand it to include people I've only "met" online as well. For most of y'all, it's either through an Internet forum (usually, but not always, one related to They Might Be Giants) or through an LJ friend's own friends page. I'm not going to include that many dates, simply because I can't remember them, but I'll put them in when I can.
3x1minus1 - Was on both the alt.music.tmbg newsgroup and the tmbg.org mailing list when I joined them in the latter half of 1997.
aliste - I replied to a post that she linked to from the
tmbg community, and mentioned how I liked that her journal title referenced a Camper Van Beethoven song (which it did at the time, but no longer does).
arfies - She added me first. I think she found me through
yosef's journal. I believe her first comment was about how she was applying to the same Honors College that I had attended (as had some other people who would later join my list, but hadn't at the time).
bartkolounger - I believe I replied to one of her comments on
zimbra1006's journal
bec_87rb - Another patron of the alt.music.tmbg newsgroup and
tmbg community
bethje - I can vaguely recall reading some of her posts on the alt.music.tmbg newsgroup in 1999, but it was when I joined the TMBG off-topic list that I got more of an idea who she was. We started talking on AIM around September of that year, first spoke on the phone in December, and met in person on March 5 of the following year. Oh, and we became an official couple on July 10.
colleenanne - Another veteran of the off-topic list. We met in person at a get-together in New York City in June 2000.
countblastula - He added me first. While I never actually asked, I assume he found my journal through
zimbra1006's.
dave_noisy - He's one of the moderators on the Frank Black Forum, which I rarely read these days.
daveychu - Another member of the off-topic list
dragonxbait - She was a freshman (freshwoman?) in the Honors College when I was a senior. We met sometime in 1999, but I can't recall exactly when. It was probably when I was sitting on the downstairs couch, which I liked to do back then, because I got to see a lot of different people walk by.
eagledna - He joined the tmbg.org list in early 1999, I think. He was also a quite frequent contributor to the off-topic list in its early days.
jazzsammich - Another tmbg.org/off-topic list person. He was on the former back when I first joined it.
jenhime - I think I replied to one of her journal posts when I saw it on the friends page for
thedisappointed.
k1cup - I replied to some of her posts when I found them through the friends pages of
aliste and the
tmbg community.
kristenjarrod - She was LJ friends with Beth first, and Beth alerted me to a post of hers where she mentioned Bruce Hornsby. I left a comment about how my uncle used to drum for him.
l8erngr8er - She used to comment on Beth's blog back when it was on Blogspot, and later started commenting on mine. I think her first comment was either about The Sims or Weird Al.
leolapyre - I found her journal through the
tmbg community.
listenesmerelda - Yet another tmbg.org/off-topic list member
little_octagon - I commented on one of her "guess the song based on the lyrics" posts when I found it through
kristenjarrod's journal.
lozenger8 - Another person I met through a community, but in this case it was the
futurama one. I believe our first LJ-based exchange involved Ben Folds living in Adelaide, where Loz also lives.
majellen - She found my journal through Amy's. She was actually at IUP back when I was, but I never met her while we were there.
matt_argos - I think he found me through the Oz Club Forums.
mikeleffel - He was basically a local celebrity on the tmbg.org list when I joined it, and he went on to become one on the off-topic list as well.
mmpoetatheart - She added me with no prior conversation on our parts. When I asked, she said she found my journal through someone else's.
not_glimmer - The TMBG show at Prospect Park in August 2000. She had been friends with Beth for some time by that point.
obsessical - Another person I found through
tmbg. I've never met her in person, but I think I did see her at a TMBG show at Penn's Landing.
onib - He found my journal through some common interests, and Beth and I actually met him in person not long after that, following a TMBG show (notice a pattern here? {g}) at the TLA.
petie_s - Through the
tmbg community, I think?
punterschlagen - We were in the same class at the Honors College, but I can't recall when we first actually met.
revme - He moderates the
yff community. I believe he was also on the alt.music.tmbg newsgroup when I joined it, although I didn't know it at the time I added him as an LJ friend.
rockinlibrarian - She was also in my class at the Honors College. We met sometime in the first semester, which would have been in 1996.
sailorptah - We conversed on the
thelostoz community earlier this year.
secretnthewings - I think I replied to one of her comments on
yosef's journal sometime last year or so.
shadarko - He found my journal through our common interest in Oz.
skylark_king - One word:
thedisappointed. (Okay, you could argue that that's actually TWO words, but they're spelled as one in the community name.)
slfcllednowhere - She joined alt.music.tmbg late in 2001. We also met in person, when we went to the Mütter Museum last year.
themall - He was on the tmbg.org list when I joined it, on the off-topic list later on, and at the same New York gathering as
colleenanne.
tisok - The tmbg.org newsgroup again.
travspence - Through
kristenjarrod's journal. (Notice how these answers are getting shorter?)
twobitme - I replied to one of his entries on the
tmbg friends page. I think it was about a proposed sequel to Freddy vs. Jason.
unclemilo - He commented on one of my posts, most likely having found it through
skylark_king's journal.
yosef - We were both on the Nonestica mailing list, but I think he discovered my journal independently of that, because I was one of very few other people who listed Ruth Plumly Thompson as an interest.
zaph - Another alt.music.tmbg and tmbg.org list person
zimbra1006 - I commented on a post of hers about a Pixies concert when I saw it on someone's friends page (probably the
tmbg community's again).
And finally, here's something that I got from
twobitme:
Hooray, I'm unique! For what it's worth, 277,471 people have my first name, and 660 my last.
