[livejournal.com profile] bethje's cat David has been sick recently. He's been hiding a lot, and not eating unless forced to. She took him to the vet yesterday, and the vet thinks he probably has cancer. From what the vet said, there was nothing that could have been done to prevent it, and it might or not might not be due to the sinus problems he's had for his whole life. They don't really know how much longer he has left. I understand that the vet estimated two months, but there's no way to know. It's really too bad, because he's only twelve years old. Poor David. :(

EDIT: David is actually 12, not 11. I have fixed the post accordingly.

I think the vet said a few years ago that my roommate's cat didn't have long to live, yet she's still alive and apparently fairly healthy now. She doesn't have cancer (as far as I know), but she's anemic. So, like I said, there's no real way of knowing.

Awww.... poor kitty. I hope it's just the sinus problems. Not that sinus problems are good, but that they're better than cancer. I hope that David feels better soon -- if not in the long term, at least in the short term...

Hey -- if weed helps for cancer patients in humans, perhaps catnip would help kitties!

None of Beth's cats have ever cared for catnip. The fact that David's nose was never very good might have had something to do with that, but maybe not.

Thanks. He actually ate some dry cat food the other day, which is a good sign.
