So many of the posts on my friends page nowadays consist of links to videos. And since I'm often unable to watch these videos right away, they've been accumulating in my memories. I probably won't end up watching most of them, though. Sometimes I get the idea that some of y'all do nothing all day BUT search the Internet for videos. This isn't really a complaint or anything, but it DOES tend to make catching up on my friends list more time-consuming.

I had a dream last night where [livejournal.com profile] bethje and I picked up [livejournal.com profile] 3x1minus1 at a train station, and she looked nothing like any pictures I've seen of her. There was also a part of the dream where my mom was saying something about broccoli and photography.

Based on what I've heard on MySpace and Amazon, there's a good chance I'll give the new They Might Be Giants tribute album a miss. I did like what I heard of the "It's Not My Birthday" cover, though, and it goes without saying that I want to hear all of Frank Black's "Road Movie To Berlin." So I don't know. It just seems to be the general rule with tribute albums that there will be a few really good covers buried in the midst of songs that either: 1) sound exactly like the originals, but with worse singers; or 2) manage to remove the best aspects of the originals.

And finally, I stole this from [livejournal.com profile] rockinlibrarian:

I wanted to run an experiment. I'm just curious how many people stop and read this journal. So, anyone who is reading this-- ESPECIALLY if you just wandered onto here and I have no idea who you are, leave a comment, even if just to say "hi," or "purple" or something. Actually, also tell me how you wandered onto here. I'm curious how many random people who aren't on my friends list-- or even me on theirs-- wander by and actually read this. I'm also curious how many people who ARE on my friends list actually read this. So, drop me a note, random people!

I doubt anyone will actually reply, but it's worth a shot, right?

Dude, if you haven't figured out I'm reading your journal yet... you worry me.

BUT I was wondering the same thing when I got several comments from nonfriendslisters yesterday on the rant I made. It freaked me out.

I'm making the icons you requested :)

Well, maybe you would have missed this post, for whatever reason. (I sometimes miss them when my friends page reloads against my will.)

... tribute albums -- typo, or is there another one than Hello Radio? I'll probably pick it (them?) up because I am obsessive, but... yeah, tribute albums are typically a couple of gems in a field of chaff. To mix a metaphor. I did like Steve Burns' "Dead", for which I saw the video... somewhere. And Frank Black doing "Road Movie To Berlin" is gonna be awesome.

Also, "something".

From: [identity profile] vovat.livejournal.com
No, that was a typo. There's only the one, as far as I know.

I also saw the "Dead" video, and it was pretty good, but not wonderfully amazing or anything. Most likely, I'll end up buying the album a few months down the road, when everyone else has forgotten about it. Then I'll write a track-by-track review in my journal, where my comments on most of the songs will consist of "this wasn't very good" or "this was too much like the original."

It really seems like they could have gotten more artists who are either friendly with TMBG or known to be influenced by them. If, say, Laura Cantrell or Corn Mo were on there in addition to Frank, I'd probably get it without a moment's hesitation. As it is, I've never even heard of half the artists. That's not to say that I mind there being some unknowns (especially since appearing on a tribute album can be a good way to BECOME known), but it could have used more...well, not even star power, but other artists TMBG fans are likely to know. And am I forgetting something, or are all of the lead vocalists male? One thing I liked about the YFF tribute was that they had a few female singers. Sheesh, you'd think they could have at least gotten Robin Goldwasser to sing something, right?

You know what is the worst? Whe you try to read a blogspot blog and they've embedded youtube crap clips in the blog and since you use dial up (and like dialup) its freakin' impossible to read the person's blog. UGH.

When Beth had dial-up and I used it to read my friends page, it would always have trouble loading pictures. There's probably a way to get it to load everything else before the pictures, but I was too lazy to investigate. That's one reason why I'll always use a cut if I want to put a picture on my journal.

Oh, and did you ever hear the Common Rotation version of "Don't Let's Start?" I remember thinking that that was quite different from the original, but still very enjoyable.

Yeah, I remember hearing it a few years ago. I might even have it on my computer, but I don't feel like looking right now. If I recall, it had kind of a Barenaked Ladies style to it.
