I got my New Jersey driver's license today. It was a pretty simple process, although I DID have to fill out a form twice. Apparently they aren't allowed to cross anything out, so if you make one mistake, you start all over again. [1] At least it wasn't as bad as it was for the guy in front of me, who was told to fill out a form at least twice, and then that he didn't really need to. I also filled out a voter registration form, so I have apparently taken all the necessary steps to becoming a New Jersey resident.

Oh, and on the off chance that anyone was concerned, I also got my Drexel transcript today. You can all sleep more easily now, I'm sure. {g}

Ki-lin
You scored 60% Esotericism, 4% Power, and 24% Malevolence!
A mythical being of Chinese mythology, comparable with the Western unicorn. Ki-lin personifies all that is good, pure, and peaceful. It lives in paradise and only visits the world at the birth of a wise philosopher. The unicorn, which can become one thousand years old, is portrayed as a deer with one horn, the tail of an ox, the hooves of a horse, and a body covered with the scales of a fish. It is one of the four Ling.

Hmm, I guess that's where they got the name of the Esper Kirin in Final Fantasy 6 (or 3, as I first knew it). I love learning things like that.

According to this, I'll die when I'm 66. I'm definitely hoping it's inaccurate.

And here's an interesting interview with David Lowery.

[1] Does anyone else remember the commercial for the old Nintendo game "Fester's Quest"? It was some kind of Addams Family tie-in, and I never played it. But the commercial included the line, "If you make one mistake, you start all over again." Must have been kind of irritating. {g}

Fester's Quest was mind-numbingly aggravating because of the whole "die and start over again" bit. I never did beat that game.

We rented Fester's Quest at some point, and all I remember is that it was hard as hell. I didn't remember the starting over again part, though. Did it just mean, "we are too lame to incorporate passwords and save files"? I guess you wouldn't know.

I don't know, but since the commercial made a point of saying it was "one tough video game," I'm guessing the fact that it was insanely difficult was supposed to be a selling point.

While video games today are a lot more complicated than they used to be, I think there aren't as many that are just flat-out hard to win. But what do I know? I suck at most of them from ANY era.

omg omg omg omg omg I HATE FESTER'S QUEST. It's pretty much the worst thing that's ever graced my presense in my ENTIRE LIFE. these little dumb-ass things shot shit at you, and you had to like, go inside a maze and turn around and there were all these white walls so you had NO IDEA WHERE YOU WERE GOING. Once, my dad was freaking out because he was DETERMINED to beat the game, and we looked all over for a strategy guide on the interent, but no one had one. BECAUSE IT WAS NOT WORTH ANYONE'S TIME.

i'm sorry for rambling. i'm vehement in my hatred for Fester's Quest. I don't think he was questing for anything. I think he just took a shit inside a game cartridge and slapped his face on the cover.

Ugh, Uncle Fester taking a dump is NOT an image I need in my mind. :P

My experience with video games in my youth was computer games on the TI 99 4a, in which you got three lives and maybe just MAYBE might have a chance to earn more, and the whole concept of BEATING a video game just completely lost me. You never got to SAVE a game and pick up where you left off! You just went through each level and then each level got a little bit harder and eventually you died, all the while knowing that you still had about 37 levels to go. I've seen "modern" video games for ages and I STILL can't quite get the concept of saving so you never have to repeat the levels you beat. Well, I GET it, and think it's great, but I still forget it exists. So the idea of a game that makes you start all over really doesn't strike me as all that odd. But then, I'm just odd and not very gamey. Yes, gamey, I'll leave that.

Well, it was pretty common with old games that you could never actually win, except possibly if they just ran out of levels. That's basically how games like Pac-Man (or "Munch Man," its TI equivalent) worked. There were always high scores to aim for, but the fact that you couldn't win was probably disappointing to some players. Like I said, I rarely can come close to winning OR getting a high score.
