Lady Mondegreen's Revenge
May. 23rd, 2006 02:16 pmI keep meaning to acknowledge the birthdays of everyone on my friends list (well, everyone who has them listed, anyway), but I keep forgetting. Anyway, today, I want to wish a happy birthday to
colleenanne, and a happy one-day-belated birthday to
yosef.
I had a crazy dream (okay, maybe not THAT crazy, but pretty cool) where
eagledna had put out a calendar, and it included a lot of contributions by me. I'm not sure what it was all about, but I think I somehow had it conflated with the calendar that the Oz Club puts out, because I was thinking of using it to look up the publication dates of Oz books. Anyway, I was proud of being featured in the calendar, and I was a bit disappointed to wake up and find it wasn't true. I guess if Bob ever DOES put out a calendar, I'll have to find some way to contribute. After all, was it not foretold in a dream? {g}
And my discussion question for the day deals with misheard song lyrics. More specifically, what songs are there where you think the misheard lyrics are better than the real ones? I thought about this the other day, when I was listening to the They Might Be Giants song "Bangs." According to every listing of the lyrics that I've seen, the opening lines are:
"Bangs
Above your eyes your hair hangs
Blow my mind, your royal flyness, I dig your bangs"
When I first heard it, though, I thought it was "BELOW my mind." It does sound like he's singing two syllables, and "below" fits with the "above" in the preceding line. Besides, "below my mind" sounds like some clever Linnellian wordplay. Like, could it be a new way of saying "subconsciously"? I was disappointed to find out that everyone else thinks it's the much more generic "blow my mind." But maybe it really IS "below," and no one knows these things but me and John. (And, incidentally, I really DID make a note of this in a spiral notebook, albeit just a brief one that didn't actually list the lyrics.)
Another one is the Pixies' "Dancing The Manta Ray," which has a line that originally sounded to me like, "Fish don't swim! Fish FLY!" Listening to it again, I'm pretty sure it's actually "this," not "fish." The real line makes more sense, but I don't like it as much.
Finally, I feel I should mention that, when I played the Weird Al song "Slime Creatures From Outer Space," she thought it was "Slime TEACHERS." That wouldn't necessarily make a BETTER song, but it would be an interesting concept.
Hmm, these Pot Pie Express Hot Pockets are pretty good, but not great. I might get them again, though, since they're so easy and everything. I don't think they sell the kind of pot pies I really like around here. For that matter, even if I could, they're not as good as they used to be. And I need to get my pot pie fix somehow, right?

I just wish it weren't.
I can see your argument for it being more interesting the other way, but I've never had a problem with it myself, cos uh...well, nevermind.
