I guess the trend of Simpsons episodes in alternating between good and bad ones still stands, since last night's was pretty meh, especially for a season finalé. It was an interesting idea, and I did like Homer's playing the role of psychiatrist, but it was fairly weak overall. [livejournal.com profile] bethje said it might have been better if he and Marge had counseled established characters, which I guess kind of makes sense. There was really no reason for us to care about these new characters, and their relationship constantly switched from successful to unsuccessful at the slightest provocation. I think the funniest joke in the episode was probably Marge vacuuming the vacuum cleaner, and that was a sight gag.

I didn't bother watching the Family Guy finalé, since I'd already seen Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story. For anyone who watched both the DVD and the TV airings, did they change anything?

Also last night, Beth and I watched Biggie & Tupac, the latest DVD that we'd gotten from Netflix. I really didn't know that much about the Biggie/Tupac thing, so I found it pretty interesting. Beth thought it was disappointing, and said it had looked better in the commercials, but I don't think I'd ever SEEN the commercials.

I had a dream where I'd just gotten a new apartment and a new job, but I was going to spend a few months with my dad in New Mexico. The whole thing made no sense. I think Beth was going to come with me, which just adds an extra layer of unlikeliness to the whole thing.

I got this survey from [livejournal.com profile] rockinlibrarian. I'm comparing myself now to myself ten years ago.

1) How old were you?
THEN: 18
NOW: 28

2) Where did you go to school?
THEN: High school
NOW: Nowhere, unless you count the colleges where I work

3) Where did you work?
THEN: I didn't. I got my first job in 1997.
NOW: Two college libraries and a governmental processing center

4) Where did you live?
THEN: Southeastern Pennsylvania
NOW: South Jersey

5) How was your hairstyle?
THEN: I was just starting to grow it out.
NOW: Well, just now, I need a haircut. I usually keep it fairly short, but a little longer on the top.

6) Did you wear braces?
THEN: No.
NOW: Also no.

7) Did you wear contacts?
THEN: No.
NOW: No, and I doubt I ever will. They kind of creep me out.

8) Did you wear glasses?
THEN: No.
NOW: Still no.

9) Who was your best friend?
THEN: I really didn't have one.
NOW: Beth

10) Which of your pets were still alive?
THEN: Cat and Arthur
NOW: I didn't really have any of my own pets, but I live with two cats.

11) Who was your boyfriend/girlfriend?
THEN: Yeah, right.
NOW: Beth

12) Who was your celebrity crush?
THEN: I'm not sure I would have even been able to IDENTIFY very many celebrities at that point, let alone have crushes on them.
NOW: I'm still not really into the celebrity crush thing.

13) Who was your regular-person crush?
THEN: I didn't really have any major crushes, but I tended to get really minor crushes on just about any girl who'd talk to me.
NOW: Beth

14) How many piercing did you have?
THEN: none
NOW: none, and I doubt I ever will

15) How many tattoos did you have?
THEN: none
NOW: none, and, once again, I probably never will

16) What was your favorite band/singer?
THEN: "Weird Al" Yankovic
NOW: They Might Be Giants

17) Had you smoked cigarettes?
THEN: no
NOW: no. As Amy said, "I'm still an anti-cancer nazi and I doubt I'll get any less so."

18) Had you gotten drunk?
THEN: no
NOW: Yeah, once.

19) Had you DRIVEN?
THEN: No, not at all.
NOW: Yeah, a lot.

20) If so which car?
THEN: N/A
NOW: Ford Focus

21) Looking back, are you where you thought you would be in 2006?
I really had no idea where I'd be, but I doubt it was anywhere close to where I currently am.

Just the general hassle of trying to get everything situated for my address change.

I actually caught the last 2/3s of the Simpsons, and I was all "Um, what? Who are those people?" and just... egh, couldn't muster anything to give a damn. I was all "Man, I guess this is why I've missed the bulk of this season. Now I'm sad."

Then I was even more sad and angry that the 90 MINUTE SEASON FINALE1/1/1//1 was just the DVD. I knew they were going to air the DVD as three shows, but still. It's almost like "Man, why did I buy it when I could have just watched it for free? Except that I would have bought it anyway, since I buy all the season sets and all that, so, um, yeah. But still, it doesn't set right with me, inexplicably!"

Well, quite a few of the Simpsons episodes this season were better, so I wouldn't give up on the show yet. I do think they should have picked a better one for the finalé, but they don't seem to be particularly concerned these days with opening or closing the season with strong episodes.

I remember hearing a rumor that the movie was also going to be included on the Season 4 DVD set. Even though I don't own the DVD, I still hope that's not true.
