Be Prepared
May. 5th, 2006 02:13 pmToday is my first actual day off since Easter. Some of them were only five-hour days, but all of them involved going in to work and working. Besides, some were ten-hour days. Of course, since my full-time job is temporary, I don't know when I'll end up getting more time off than I can handle. For now, though, I'll try to enjoy this time off.
Yesterday,
bethje and I went out to eat at IHOP, and then went to the Build-A-Bear in the mall, and built...a bunny. It was a moving-out present for me from Beth. I named her [1] Holly, which took me a little while to come up with. For some reason, when coming up with girls' names, I often tend to think of ones with prominent L's in them. I was also asking Beth for flower-related names. Anyway, she's really soft, and I dressed her in summer clothes and daisies for her ears.
I'm still getting used to living in a different house. The shower here is confusing, so I had to ask Dorothea how to use it. That was kind of embarrassing, but I've never seen another shower that worked that way. I'm probably going to go out shopping today, and get some things that I want and/or need. And sometime this weekend, I'm going to go back to my mom's house and pick up some more stuff. My dad is supposed to be in the area this weekend, so I'm going to try to work it so I can see him, work at my cataloging job, and pack the car all in the same day.
Last night, Beth and I watched the Bullshit! episode about the Boy Scouts, which was focused primarily on how they discriminate against homosexuals and atheists. This is apparently a recent development, and coincides with when the Church of Latter-Day Saints started serving as the primary source of funding for the Scouts. The overall tone of the episode wasn't that the Scouts were bad overall, but that they could be saved if they changed their discriminatory policies.
[1] It seems a little weird to refer to a stuffed animal by a gender-specific pronoun, but I'm not sure why. I do it for imaginary people all the time. I mean, if I were to write a review of a Simpsons episode where I referred to Homer as "it," that would be pretty ridiculous, wouldn't it?

Date: 2006-05-05 06:35 pm (UTC)1. Why didn't you name the bunny Beth?
2. Does the shower come on by pulling down on the faucet where the water comes out? Because, man, I stood in my ex-boyfriend's aunt's shower for 30 minutes one time trying to get it to come on.
3. Didn't the "Cripple Fight" episode of South Park teach us that it's okay to let the Boy Scouts discriminate?

3. I didn't see the South Park episode in question, but one of Penn and Teller's points was that it was wrong for them to discriminate as long as they kept accepting public funding.
