I just (as of writing this sentence, not the rest of the entry) got a spam message credited to "Bell John," which is kind of weird, as there's a John Bell on some of my mailing lists.

Just a little while ago, I decided to stop by Wawa to get some gas. As it turned out, though, there were cops blocking the part of the road with the entrance, so not only could I not get gas, but I had to take a detour through some housing development. One of the cops gave me directions through it, but I can rarely follow spoken directions, and I ended up getting lost. It didn't take me that long to get my bearings (always easier in the daylight than at night; getting lost at night terrifies me), but it was a waste of time. Not to mention that I'll now have to stop to get gas on my way to work, which will take even MORE time.

I'm trying to make a list of things I'll need to get for my new home, so I can go shopping sometime (probably Friday). I've already gotten my basic hygiene products, although it might not be a bad idea to invest in a new hairbrush. I'll also need to get some groceries, something to keep my laundry in (although I MIGHT still have the bag that I used for that purpose back in college), and an alarm clock (unless I just take [livejournal.com profile] bethje's old one). And at some point, I'll probably purchase another bookshelf.

You know how I mentioned lousy Philadelphia drivers a little over a week ago? While driving through Philly the other day, someone was weaving in and out of lanes in front of me. I can't count that as a point against Philly drivers, though, since this person had New York plates. I guess if they were from out of town, it's possible that they wouldn't know which lane they were supposed to be in. Still not much fun to drive behind them, though.

Speaking of New Yorkers in other states (how's THAT for transition?), you can listen to John Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants on a Nashville radio show here. They discuss TMBG's TV soundtrack work, and Flans says, "People respect you less if they find out you have to do other things to make a living." It's a funny comment, but I think the thing that bothered me the most was that, when they were doing most of their work in that respect, they WEREN'T putting out any albums. It's kind of a selfish attitude, really. "Put out more stuff that I can buy in a store, even if you don't make as much money from it!" But in a way, isn't that how fans are SUPPOSED to be? We're always wanting more. {g} One of the radio hosts also asked Flans whether Linnell was the Alan Colmes to his Sean Hannity. Beth actually thinks that Neil Cavuto looks like Flans, which I guess I can see.

Okay, I have to go.

HAH! :D

The last time we saw erin, she knew where I was coming from with that, too!

But I doubt Cavuto would say that taxes should be higher, as Flans did in that interview. {g}

but I can rarely follow spoken directions

Yeah, me, too. I can usually remember the first two or three steps, but then it just gets really confusing.

In addition to having to remember a lot of different steps, there's the fact that not everyone thinks of the same route in the same way. Some people go by distances in miles, others by stoplights. Some people notice street names, and others don't.
