Movin' Out

Well, I brought the first of my stuff over to my new room. This was mostly the stuff that I needed the most, and that was easiest to move, like clothes and my computer. I do have it set up for the Internet now, which is good. I feel lost without Internet access. I've also brought over some posters that I'd been wanting to put up for some time, but hadn't had the wall space. When I'm done putting them up, maybe I'll take pictures of my room and post them to the Web, like all the cool kids do. {g} I'm not looking forward to moving knick-knacks and papers, though. I might end up throwing some stuff out. Perhaps I'll finally get rid of my old school papers, which I haven't looked at since I finished the actual classes. It'll probably be a little while before I have to get around to doing that, though. I'm making the move gradual, which will mean much less stress for me. Having to move EVERYTHING out of a place in a certain amount of time is overwhelming to me. Next week, I'll probably move the rest of my clothes, and some of my books.

As far as who else is living in the house, it's [livejournal.com profile] bethje's cousin Dorothea, her new kitten Anderson, her really mean old cat who lives in the basement, and possibly her sister Alyssa (nobody seems to be entirely certain as to whether she's moving in or not).

Okay, now that I've covered that, I suppose I'll say a few things about the Fox Sunday night lineup. The Simpsons was a good character-driven episode. I liked Lisa's acting like a boy, the girls' math class, and Lisa's fantasy involving mathematical symbols. I kind of think they could have done even more than they did with the gender-segregated school idea, but I think they already devoted more the episode than usual to the main plot. The segue from the largely unrelated thing the family does at the very beginning to the main idea happened pretty early on. With Family Guy, I think they did a good job at tying together a few different plot ideas (Jasper wanting to get married, the Mayor West scandal, and Chris joining the Young Republicans). It's funny that Brian's cousin is named Jasper, since that's the name of Beth's uncle's dog. Anyway, I laughed pretty hard at Clinton singing in the nude, Stewie going through the candy dish, and some of the contoversy over the Dig 'Em statue (especially Mort Goldman's comment). American Dad was also good, although I can't think of anything specific to say about it.

Also, I believe today is [livejournal.com profile] mikeleffel's birthday, so happy birthday to him!

I like how in Family Guy world gay marriage is controversial but no one seems to mind that a dog is marrying a human.

Yeah, considering that the argument a lot of morons have against gay marriage is that the next step is people marrying animals, you'd think they would have at least brought that up. But FG episodes really seem to fluctuate between presenting Brian (and, by extension, Jasper and other talking animals) as a dog with human intelligence and mannerisms, and as essentially a human in a dog's body.

Is Beth's uncle's dog flamboyantly gay, too?

Also, the Dig 'Em statue was awesome. I like it when they bring up old advertising characters that most people have forgotten about.

Nah, I think he was neutered too young to develop any sexual identity whatsoever.

I don't think Dig 'Em is totally forgotten. I remember a series of commercials not too long ago where he would brutally beat a cat in order to get Smacks. The fact that Mayor West specifically referred to Sugar Smacks definitely suggests an earlier advertising campaign, though. I assume the name was changed around the same time as Sugar Crisp. It was the cereal version of political correctness, I guess. {g}

The candy dish scene was the best. And Stewie going on and on about the keys to a VW Siricco (not spelled right!). It was something like,

"that...that car isn't even made anymore!!"

I loved how the keys came back in the end. That's how Brian got out of jailtime, giving Adam West that key to the VW...I guess another key to add to his collection of "jingling keys".

Based on a Google search, it looks like it's spelled "Sirocco."
