As you march through the intestines of God
Apr. 9th, 2006 05:26 pmI'm still working on re-reading the entire Discworld series. It's been kind of slow-going, but now that I'm working a job with regular breaks, I'll probably get through the books a little more quickly now. Fifteen-minute breaks were pretty much designed for reading, since there's not much else you can do during them. I'm currently getting towards the end of Soul Music, and I like to have a book or two in reserve, so I decided to check out Maskerade from the library. (I own a copy of Interesting Times, so I didn't need to get that one at the library.) I got there a few minutes before it opened, and there was a really long line to get in. It turned out that there was a book sale today. Not that that's a big deal, since it's not like they have to check people at the door or anything, but how often do you see a long line for library admission? Actually, maybe it happens all the time. I rarely go there right when it opens. But I would imagine that the book sale added some volume.
I was listening to the Minus 5's Let the War Against Music Begin today, and I remembered how cool "Your Day Will Come" is. That's a song I've always kind of wanted to put on a mix, but it's a bit lengthy. Actually,
revme once made a mix of longer songs, so maybe I should follow suit. Some other songs I'd probably put on there would be:
The Mariner's Revenge Song - The Decemberists (I had wanted to put this song on my Best of 2005 mix, but I figured it would be too long.)
Albuquerque - "Weird Al" Yankovic (I love this song.)
Good Advice - Allan Sherman
I'm not sure what else, but since they're all long songs, I wouldn't need that many more, I suppose. Tori Amos' "Yes, Anastasia" might also be a good addition, as well as maybe the long version of "Old Joe Clark" from Hypnotic Clambake's live album. That's kind of jammy, and I'm usually pretty anti-jam (the musical kind, I mean; I like the kind you spread on toast), but HC's live show was jam-packed with jams and I still enjoyed it. I think it might be largely due to the style and the instruments used. An extended accordion or banjo solo kicks the ass of an extended guitar solo. Besides, "Old Joe Clark" is just a fun song. I like it's an old folk number, actually. They play it a lot in the frontier section of Six Flags Great Adventure, and I always think, "Hey, I know that song from Hypnotic Clambake!"
3x1minus1 listed her 25 Most Played songs on iTunes about a week ago, and I wanted to do the same thing, but I didn't have access to my own computer at the time. So here they are:

Most of those are songs that I listened to a bunch of times in a row, or else ones that I put on my Best of 2005 mix.
Since I said I'd post them, here are Scott McCaughey and Peter Buck's autographs:

And on a totally different topic, but one I've been thinking about, did anyone ever use "illegal" as a noun until really recently? It's used that way all the time now, and it just sounds so weird to me.
Oh, and this is kind of old news, but some girls in Ohio were arrested when trying to create a live-action version of Super Mario Bros.
