Today is a day off from work, but it kind of doesn't feel like it, since I worked until 12:30 last night and start again at 6:30 tomorrow morning. I needed the day to recuperate, but I can't take full advantage of it. I did manage to pick up a copy of the new Weird Al album, but I also broke the screen on my cell phone. I dropped it face down on some rocks, and now it's cracked in one of those obnoxious spider-web patterns. It still works, but I really don't want to have to use something in that condition. Do they sell replacement screens for phones? Probably not, right? I guess I'll have to get a new phone, and that's going to cost a lot of money. Why couldn't it have waited to crack until our contract ran out in another few months? I don't want to go out again today, but maybe I'll go to the Verizon store after work tomorrow. I also watched the two new Futurama episodes, so I'm going to talk about those.

Neutopia - This one was sort of a follow-up to "Amazon Women in the Mood" and Into the Wild Green Yonder in terms of the focus on gender-based humor. It seems that episodes like this always get flak for being sexist, and while it's true that comedy writing is a real sausage fest and Futurama is no exception, I really see no reason to think they're actually PROMOTING gender discrimination. They didn't do a lot with the gender switch, but it was still pretty funny, and I hope we see the Borax Kid again.

I really do hope the glass ceiling won't still exist in another thousand years, but maybe it will just be replaced with a transparent aluminum ceiling. No, seriously, while I do find it funny when Futurama addresses contemporary issues in a science-fiction fashion, it still seems weird when it's implied cultural attitudes haven't changed in the future. I thought our primitive notions of modesty had gone the way of pine trees.
NERDLINGER QUESTION: How did the ship crash while in space? Fuel or not, there wouldn't have been any gravity to pull it down.

Benderama - Once Bender started duplicating himself, it seemed pretty obvious how it was going to go, and for a while it was basically what I would have expected. It became more creative once the tiny Benders turned water into alcohol and the giant unattractive alien returned. I have to say I felt bad for that guy. All he wanted was for people not to make fun of his appearance so much!

Also, I think this is the first time I've heard a Young Fresh Fellows song on TV. It wasn't the original version, unfortunately, but it was still a pleasant surprise.
NERDLINGER QUESTION: I assume the water had been changed back at the end, since everyone was starting to sober up. How did this happen? I guess it could have been done with nanobots, like the ones the Professor had in "A Clockwork Origin."
